Starke accident claims two lives

On Tuesday, April 14, at approximately 8:37 p.m. the Starke County 911 center received numerous 911 calls of a traffic accident involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle.
When the first officers arrived on scene they found two people had been ejected and were lying on the ground. The pickup truck involved was on fire.
Emergency medical service (EMS) personnel arrived on scene and determined that both individuals who had been ejected were deceased. The driver of the pickup truck was out and walking around. The driver was treated at the scene but refused to be taken for further medical treatment.
Starke County Sheriff's Department transported the driver of the truck to I.U. Health Starke Hospital where he submitted to a blood draw for chemical testing. The driver was then taken to the Starke County Sheriff's Department where he is currently being held on preliminary charges of two counts of reckless homicide.
The names of those involved are not being released at this time pending family notifications. This accident remains under investigation by the Starke County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police Accident reconstruction division.
The Starke County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police, an Officer from the Division of Natural Resources (DNR), North Judson Fire, San Pierre Fire Department, Starke County EMS and the Starke County Coroner's office.
