River Bandits sweep Post 27 in DH in Defiance

The Plymouth Post 27 American Legion baseball team got swept in a doubleheader with the Ohio River Bandits at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio Saturday.
The Bandits scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings to squeak past Plymouth 5-4 in game one, then followed up with a dominate 10-0 diming of the Diamond Spyders in game two.
Pedro Lopez took the loss in game one, giving up the game-tying and winning runs coming in to close in the seventh after middle reliever Kevin Hawley had pitched two shutout innings while surrendering one hit. Starter Tyler LaFollette pitched a shutout through the fourth inning before the River Bandits got to him for three runs in the fifth as they whittled their deficit down to 4-3.
Michael Hendricks got the win for the Bandits, giving up seven hits with one walk versus nine strikeouts and four earned runs, including three in the top of the first as Plymouth jumped off to a fast start.
Glenn’s Drew McDonald and Bremen’s Andrew Cullers each recorded two hits in the loss, and Plymouth’s Spencer Maecroft went yard for three runs in the top of the first to put his team on top early.
Meanwhile, in game two, the Bandits’ Bailey Martin was dominant on the hill, throwing a one-hit shutout in five innings of work. Martin struck out 10 and was just two at bats away from a perfect game as he surrendered one hit to Maecroft and one walk to Glenn’s Michael Machnic.
LaVille’s Bryce Bustamante was touched for six runs — three earned — off seven hits and a walk over the first four innings.
Kevin Hawley gave up four runs — none earned — off five hits as the Bandits put the game away early with a big fifth inning.
