Kindergarten round-up tonight
Culver Community Schools’ kindergarten round-up will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the Culver Elementary School cafeteria. To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2014. Children do not need to attend this informational meeting with parents, however the kindergarten classrooms will be open to visit following this meet­ing. If a parent cannot come on April 17, please contact Culver Elementary at 574-842-3389, or 574- 542-4017 to make other ar­rangements.

Sing for a Cure concert tonight
Culver Community’s High School and Middle School vocal ensembles, Cavalier Sound, Sweet Cavaliers, Jazz Street, will present a Sing for a Cure concert on Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the
CCHS auditorium. All door donations will con­tribute to Relay for Life. Ribbons for contributions will be distributed by the Sweet Cavaliers. The audi­torium will open for seat­ing at 7:10 p.m.

Max Move Saturday
All interested individu­als are invited to partici­pate in the third annual Max Move, held Saturday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. The goal is to move around beautiful Lake Maxinkuckee at one’s own pace; a chase car will be provided to return you to the starting line, and three refreshment SEG stops will be provided along the route. The walk starts and finishes at the Naval Build­ing on the Culver Acade­mies campus. This is event is free of cost, but please arrive around 8:45 to reg­ister. Parking is located at the hockey rink or around the oval near the flagpoles.

Water trickling canceled
With the recent warm­ing trend and the thawing frozen water mains no longer exist. Therefore, effective immediately, the Town of Culver is no longer asking citi­zens to trickle their water.
For those accounts that had signed up with Town Hall, we ask that they remain patient as we work through the billing cycles.

Arts and crafts sale, demonstrations April 26
A Culver community arts and crafts sale: handmade marketplace will take place Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Culver Public Library’s large meeting room. Knitting, jewelry, painting, crochet and more will be on hand. Come see what people in your community make with their hands. There will be craft demonstrations throughout the day.

Town wide garage sales April 25-26
The Town Wide Garage Sale is set for Friday and Sat­urday, April 25 and 26. Maps will be available Thursday, April 24 online and at Town Hall, Osborn’s Mini-Mart, Dairy Barn and First National Bank of Mon­terey.

Student art show April 26, 27
Culver Tri Kappa is pleased to announce the 12th annual Student Art Show on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, at the Culver Cove Marmont Room. The art show is open to any student from the Culver Academies, Culver Community High School and Culver Community Middle School. Categories include drawing, painting, photogra­phy, print and three-dimensional. Stop by and vote for best of show and people’s choice categories.

Book sale April 25, 26
The Friends of the Culver Union Township Public Li­brary will hold a book sale Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, in the lower level of the library, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.. Future book sales will be held in June, July, Sep­tember and October. Book donations are always welcome and can be dropped off at the library circulation desk.

Donate items now for the Lions Club Spring Fest
The Culver’s Lion’s Club’s annual ‘Spring Fest’ will take place Friday, May 2 (flea market) and Saturday, May 3 (flea market, breakfast, and bake sale). Town-wide cleanup May 10
The Town of Culver is sponsoring a Town Wide Clean Up Day Saturday, May 10. You may drop off items that need to be disposed of at the dumpsters in the water town lot on Lake Shore Drive. Hazardous materials and tires will not be accepted. Citizens may call Bob Porter at 574-292-3943 to schedule a pick up.

CUTPL Celebrates One Book, One County
During the month of April, the Culver-Union Township Public Library will celebrate “One Book, One County,” a county-wide program encouraging the community to read and discuss the same book. Marshall County’s 2014 se­lection for “One Book, One County” is “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Kline. Stop by the library to pick up a reading guide and a book. CUTPL will host a book dis­cussion led by Reference/Adult Services Librarian Laura Jones on Saturday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the small meet­ing room. This program is free and open to the public.

Open house, community workshop May 8
An open house and community workshop will be held Thursday, May 8 at the Lion’s Club Train Depot in Culver. The open house will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and will allow residents to “drop in” and review the draft comprehensive plan for the Town of Culver. Members of the consultant team and town staff will be on hand to answer questions. The room will be set up with several poster boards and ex­hibits displaying the draft plans and policies that are being considered. The open house will be followed by a Com­munity Workshop at 7 p.m., which will include a more formal presentation of recommendations contained in the draft comprehensive plan.

Automatic utility bill payment
Beginning in April, the Town of Culver will offer resi­dents the option to pay their utility bills automatically via ACH (also known as EFT). Those who would like to take advantage of this option may fill out an authorization form available from Town Hall or Please attach a voided check and return the signed authorization to Town Hall, 200 E. Washington, Culver, IN 46511. For those who would like to begin the service in April, please return the authorization no later than the 5th of April. Going forward, authorization forms must be received no later than the 5th of the month you wish to begin the automatic payments. SAT, ACT prep at CCHS
SAT and ACT preparation classes at Culver Commu­nity High School take place Tuesdays and Thursdays in April, when Vickie Benner will work on the verbal por­tion at 7:20 a.m. On Wednesdays, Mike Buschman will work on the math portion and continue every Wednesday and Friday at 7:20 a.m. The SAT will be offered on May 3 at Culver Academies. Registration deadline is April 4; late registration is April 18. The ACT will be offered on June 14, at Kokomo, South Bend and Elkhart. Registra­tion deadline is May 9. Winters scholarship accepting apps
Applicants for the Ralph E. Winters Scholarship must be: Culver Community High School graduates who are at least second semester freshmen and plan to enroll full time in their sophomore year or above in a technical pro­gram such as engineering, pharmacy, mathematics, sci­ence, nursing, agriculture or a technical certificate pro­gram. Exercise for seniors
Culver-Union Township Public Library is pleased to offer Exercise for Seniors. This free exercise class for seniors will meet three times a week and offer easy, seated exercises. The program is scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10 a.m. and will meet down­stairs in the large meeting room. CRC offers match to local donors’ STEM dollars
The Culver Redevelopment Commission is offering to match any local individual, organization, or entity wishing to support Culver Community Schools’ efforts to facilitate the new STEM-based program to better meet nationwide standards in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, no matter how small the financial contribution, until they reach a total of $10,000. Expenses may include new com­puters, software, or other equipment needed in support of implementing Project Lead the Way’s program, which are not covered by grant funds.
