BPL celebrating National Library Week April 14-19

BOURBON — The Bourbon Public Library is celebrating National Library Week by offering a weeklong book sale ($1 for one bag), daily drawings for kids, a family movie night Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m., a special story time for preschoolers from 2-2:45 p.m. with local EMS and K9 units, and a family game day Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (bring your own board/card game or play one that the library already has).
The library has worked hard to adapt to changing technology and community needs. The library has increased its seating and study areas, added a laptop for in-house use, and remodeled a meeting room. Having recently collected community surveys (in-house, Triton Junior High students, and online) the library realizes that it needs to get the word out about what all it has to offer — most of it free.
The Bourbon Public Library serves the community in many ways. In addition to free DVDs, books, magazines, and books on CD, it offers free eBooks, free computer/Internet access, scanning/faxing/copying services, a 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program (supported by First State Bank of Bourbon), a LEGO Club for third- through sixth-graders, a book club for adults, family movie nights, homebound delivery for those unable to travel, and a meeting room free to use for non-profits. If you would like to lead a workshop or information session (scrapbooking, gardening, wellness, parenting, etc.) please notify the library. If you want to start a club, let the staff know. Employees are happy to work with patrons to advertise and get something going.
“Service to the community has always been the focus of the library,” said Heather Barron, Bourbon Public Library director. “We are offering even more programs and services with a reduced budget. We’ll continue to grow and evolve as best we can to provide for all of our community. Feedback about new or current materials, programs, or other information is always appreciated. We are very proud to serve this community.”
Bourbon residents, Triton students and employees, and Tippecanoe and Etna Township residents are all eligible for free library cards. For more information, visit the Bourbon Public Library at 307 N. Main St., Bourbon, call 574-342-5655, or see the library’s website at www.bourbon.lib.in.us. Library hours are Monday to Wednesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
