Triton wins Merrillville Invite
Triton’s boys tennis team beat out Centreville by a point and host Merrillville by two points to win the Merrillville Invitational with 33 points Saturday.
Jared Fisher was the meet champion at 3 singles, and Jake Oldham and Austin Sellers combined for the 2 doubles championship for Triton. Lucas Shafer and Darrin Harrell were meet runners-up at 1 doubles, while Alex Eib placed sixth at 2 singles, and Dean Howdeshell finished seventh after breaking strings in both rackets early in the tournament and playing with a borrowed racket.

Plymouth goes 2-1 at LaPorte Tournament
The Plymouth High School boys tennis team suffered its second loss of the year to No. 21-ranked South Bend St. Joseph by a narrow 3-2 margin at the LaPorte Invitational Saturday. The match was decided at 1 doubles where St Joe won a third set super tiebreaker 10-7.
PHS defeated Laporte 3-2 and South Bend Adams 5-0 to run their record to 11-2 on the season at the tourney. The Pilgrims play four Northern Lakes Conference matches in a row today through Thursday, starting with Northridge at home tonight at 5 p.m.

Lady Pilgrims fall in five
Plymouth lost a dramatic five-setter with Northern Lakes Conference foe Warsaw Saturday, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11.
Hunter Stevens led the Lady Pilgrims attack with 13 kills to go with a balanced 13 digs. Haley Harrell set 31 assists with a team-best 16 digs, while Lacy Poczik served three aces with two blocks.
Cassie Quissell notched 13 digs, and Emily Eveland recorded three blocks at the net for Plymouth in the tough loss.

Lady Lancers win
Jessica Tuttle and Sara Niespodziany both scored goals for LaVille, and the Lady Lancers hung on for a narrow 2-1 defeat of visiting South Bend Adams at home at Newton Park Saturday.
LaVille outshot the visitors by an 8-2 shots on goal margin in the win.

The Argos boys soccer team suffered its second loss of the year with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Portage Saturday.
Damon Binkley scored on a Max Bailey assist in the 72nd minute to cut the Dragons’ deficit to 2-1, but the home team never got any closer as it was outshot 8-2.
Casey Johnson finished with five saves for Argos, which drops to 10-2.

NorthWood wins, Plymouth 3rd at JV NLCs
NorthWood won championships at 3 singles and 1 and 2 doubles en route to 23 points and the JV Northern Lakes Conference team title, while Plymouth finished third with 17 points behind Warsaw’s 19 Saturday.
The JV Pilgrims’ only championship was supplied by Nick Felke at 2 singles. Michael Johnson and George Stults placed second at 2 doubles, meanwhile.
