ELKHART — Due to a blown transformer at Charger Field, tonight’s Plymouth football game at Elkhart Memorial has been postponed until Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The transformer in question was struck by lightning, cutting power to all of Memorial’s outdoor events, and parts to repair the transformer were unavailable until noon today, said school officials. If the transformer can’t be repaired today, then tomorrow night’s contest will be held at Rice Field at Elkhart Central at 7:30 p.m.
A determination on where the game would be played Saturday was scheduled to be made by 2 p.m. today. The status of Saturday’s JV football game with Memorial at Plymouth was up in the air as of press time Friday as well.
This is the second time that lightning has wreaked havoc with area football schedules this season. In week 2 on Aug. 30, several area games were postponed due to persistent lightning. Plymouth’s game with Rochester was called early in the third quarter, and the Rockies ultimately claimed a 35-0 victory when the Zebras declined to make up the remaining time Saturday.
