Family loses everything to fire

March 13, 2014

LAPAZ — The family affect by Tuesday's house fire suffered the loss of their home, personal belongings, and family pets including beloved pitbull, Betty Lou and several cats. The family members were treated and released for smoke inhalation include Jenn Kaser and grandmother Mary Batcho.

Batcho's son-in-law Stanley Kaser is currently still being treated for smoke inhalation and throat issues at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Kaser is expected to be released soon. Kaser's wife MaryJo was not at home at the time because she had left shortly before for work.

Winter storms close schools, knock out power and complicate commutes

MARSHALL COUNTY — Students got another snow day, county and city crews hit the streets with snow plows again,some residents lost power and others lost control of their cars.

Schools posting two-hour delays

MARSHALL COUNTY — A two-hour delay to the start of school has been announced for Plymouth, Argos, Culver, John Glenn, LaVille and Triton schools.

Marshall County Sheriff phone lines are restored

MARSHALL COUNTY — Incoming telephone lines to the Marshall County Sheriff's office which were reported to be out of service earlier this afternoon, have been repaired, according to an alert from the county.

911 calls were being routed to Kosciusko County until repairs could be made. For non-emergencies, call 952-3289.

County Zoning Board denies banquet hall application; approves several others

PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Board of Zoning Appeals denied a couple's special use application to open a banquet hall on their property. Anumber of neighbors opposed the application.

Several other requests were granted, including approval to operate home -based businesses and a request to build an outdoor structure at Swan Lake Resort.

ISTEP administrative irregularities found at Menominee Elementary

March 12, 2014

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Community School Corp. confirmed that an investigation what they have termed administrative irregularities occurred at Menominee Elementary School last week. The school district did not elaborate on the scope of the irregularities, nor did they name the parties involved. A report will be sent to the state.

Three arrested; charged with attempted murder

PLYMOUTH — Three people have been arrested and charged with attempted murder in relation to a shots fired incident in February outside the Economy Inn in Plymouth.

Fire destroys house in Lapaz area

March 12, 2014

LAPAZ — Crews from close to a dozen local fire departments responded to a fire at a home in in the 14,000 block of 5C Road yesterday afternoon. An elderly occupant was pulled from the home before fire crews arrived on scene at about 3:30 p.m. The fire was so intense and required so much water, the road was damaged and will be repaired by Marshall County.

Blood drive in Argos cancelled

ARGOS — The American Red Cross Blood Drive scheduled at Argos United Methodist Church for today has been canceled due to winter weather. To schedule a blood donation appointment when travel is safe, please visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
