City livestock ordinance passed

August 12, 2014

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Common Council made a final decision in regards to ordinance 2014-2079R. The ordinance contains the amendment specifying keeping livestock within city limits as unlawful. The council voted to establish what the violations will be for those that do not adhere to the ordinance. More details available in today's Pilot News.

Tony Stewart area events canceled

LAKEVILLE/PLYMOUTH — Tony Stewart's two scheduled area appearances this week have been canceled.
Stewart’s scheduled appearance at a meet and greet event at the Newton Center on Thursday, Aug. 14 has been canceled after a tragedy that occurred over the weekend at a New York dirt track race.
Stewart was involved in an accident that resulted in the death of fellow racer Kevin Ward Jr. on Saturday.
Anyone who has already purchased tickets for the Newton Center event will receive a refund. Please contact the Newton Center at 574-784-2749 for details.

Teens Waggoner and Whiteman apprehended

August 11, 2014

MARSHALL COUNTY — Two juveniles who escaped from a southern Indiana detention center, were taken into custody in Kosciusko County Saturday without incident.

Kody Whiteman and Adam Waggoner both have ties to Plymouth and were believed to be in the area last week. They escaped on Aug. 3.

Students head back to school this week

MARSHALL COUNTY — There has been a lot of activity recently at local schools, even though summer break doesn't "officially" end until this week.

Teachers have been setting up their classrooms. Maintenance staff has been making the buildings clean and fresh, and training has been conducted to get new teachers up to speed on school procedures.

For students, the first day of school is approaching.

School start dates are:

Tuesday, Aug. 12: Culver, John Glenn, LaVille
Wednesday, Aug. 13: Plymouth, Triton
Thursday, Aug. 14: Argos
Monday, Aug. 18. Bremen

Plymouth woman dies in motorcycle accident

SOUTH BEND — Nicole Beguin, 23, an emergency nurse at Memorial Hospital and a graduate of Grace College, was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Andrew Pavolka, of LaPorte, a fire fighter who also worked at Memorial Hospital.

According to news reports, the motorcycle collided with a SUV at Sample and Michigan streets at 12:15 a.m. Saturday in South Bend.

Beguin’s cause of death was determined to be critical head injuries and blunt force trauma, according to the St. Joseph County Coroner.

The accident is under investigation.

Road Warriors at Work in Nappanee

NAPPANEE -- Road work was on the mind of Mayor Larry Thompson and the City Council in the first of two August sessions, this one on Monday night.
The South Main railroad crossing will be shut down Aug. 11-15 for that resurfacing. There will a clearly marked detour route.
The street department has awarded other fall paving bids, which came in lower than anticipated, and all that remains is the return of signed contracts.
“When I look at our streets and compare them to other communities, this city is doing a lot better,” the mayor said.
