It's a trashy issue

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth could become a “trashy” town if sidewalk obstruction becomes a major problem.
October 23 Mayor Mark Senter released a statement on Facebook requesting residents to be more considerate about leaving their trash receptacles on the sidewalk for pickup.

BOURBON – Proposed legislation may do away with small school districts, such as Argos, Culver Community, Triton and LaVille - any school district with less than 2,000 students.

That is the reason that Triton Superintendent Donna Burroughs is stepping up and hosting an information session on the legislation and what it will mean for Marshall County.

Burroughs announced a public meeting entitled “The Challenges of Education in America: The War on Public Schools” to be held at the Triton Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.

Help sought in burglary

CULVER — Marshall County Police are asking the public's help about a burglary that occurred during the day at a residence in the 1300 block of SR 17.

According to the police report, an unknown suspect or suspects entered the home and took a RCA 55 inch flat screen television. The crime occurred on Thursday, Oct. 24 while the homeowner was away during the day.

Anyone who may have information on this crime is asked to call Marshall County Sheriff's department at 574--936-3187

• Plymouth Chamber of Commerce Downtown Halloween Parade and Trick-or-Treating day is Saturday, Oct. 25, 1-3 p.m. Parade route is down Michigan Street; trick or treating follows.

• Plymouth Public Library's annual “Trick or Treat Open House” also from 1 to 3 p.m.

• The Newton Center in Lakeville's Haunted School continues from 8 to 11 p.m., Friday, Oct.24 and Saturday, Oct. 25. Entry is $5.

• Haunted Horse Barn at the Argos Fairgrounds is 7 - 10 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $2 per person.

Community access to high school weight room raises concerns

LAKEVILLE – A job description for a weight room supervisor brought out concerns about a school policy that may leave the school and students vulnerable on legal and security fronts.

Superintendent Mitchell Mawhorter said the position is justified for several reasons, including because the room is used on a regular basis by students and non-students, without supervision. These non-students are adults who are not affiliated with the school.

In addition, school officials are unsure how many keys to the room are in use.
