Little 5 crowd has Barron to thank for Weezy show

March 24, 2011

BLOOMINGTON — Plymouth High School graduate (2007) and Indiana University senior Meredith Barron will undoubtedly remember many special events from her four years at I.U., but the one scheduled for April 12 will more than likely be a standout.
Barron persuaded rapper Lil Wayne — real name Dewayne Carter — to perform at the college’s Assembly Hall during the annual Little 500 activities in April.
“I’ve been a fan of Lil Wayne for four or five years,” Barron said. “My friends have been talking about trying to get him to come to our campus for a long time. So, I decided to give it a try.”

BREMEN — The community came together last Thursday for an evening of giving and friendly competition with the 15th annual Swartzlander Basketball Benefit Game.

The proceeds from this year's event went to Jon Hershberger and his family. Last July, Hershberger was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare form of cancer. While donations are still coming in, the $26,518 raised after event expenses will help with current and future medical costs.

March 23, 2011

With the month of April -- and hence the seasons of spring and summer -- just over the horizon, Culver’s economic year is, in many ways, just about to get started. With that in mind, members and leaders of Culver’s Chamber of Commerce are gearing up for another busy year themselves, says Chamber President Dawn Brockey and Vice President Tony Sellers.

Police said there is no indication of foul play and they believe Wright might have left on her own free will. However, they say want the public’s assistance in finding her.

Agreement for complex to be hammered out

March 22, 2011

PLYMOUTH — “Build it and they will come…” was the admonishment in the movie Field of Dreams and it appears another sport in the area has taken that to heart.
Local soccer players may have a new place to hone their skills if the final questions can be worked out between Marshall County and the Plymouth Travel Soccer Club, which will include the Plymouth Recreational Soccer league as well. Curt Feece made a second trip to speak to the Marshall County Commissioners about building a new soccer complex on land the group hopes to lease from Marshall County.

Hotel Culver planned for this summer

March 22, 2011

Culver should see a much-needed addition to its overnight accommodation offerings this summer, with Hotel Culver, located at 18571 State Road 10 (just west of the intersection of State Roads 10 and 17), underway.
This according to John Zehner, who has been involved in several Culver area businesses in recent years.
The five-room hotel will precede a second, 16-room venture located in two buildings on the same property: those formerly occupied by the 10 Spot and a motorcycle shop.

Students and faculty involved in Culver Community High School’s Business Professionals of America have not only carried on a remarkable tradition of excellence by virtue of their success at a recent state-level competition, they’re also carrying on the legacy of the recently-deceased, well-loved Culver teacher who helped build the program to what it is, Mike Schwartz.
Twenty-two CCHS students competed in Indianapolis February 27 through March 1 at BPA’s annual state competition.
