MISHAWAKA/PLYMOUTH/REGION – Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka and Plymouth, Memorial Hospital of South Bend and Elkhart General Hospital all stand prepared for a variety of emergencies in order to care for patients and keep health professionals safe, according to a statement released to the media yesterday.

Seed warehouse coming soon

MARSHALL COUNTY — There was quite a bit of discussion during last night's Board of Zoning Appeals meeting in the Marshall Building.
Jason Walk and Andy Copeland of Innovation Seed approached the board with plans to build a warehouse complete with 3-4,000 bushel bins to hold and dispense seed to local farmers. The proposed site is on busy King road. Nearby homeowners expressed their concerns about increased traffic, noise and dust among other things.

For Bunnie Sullivan and countless others that have lost their beloved pets there is a new mission. To warn others about the dangers of pets and plastic bags. Sullivan lost her three year old German Shepard to suffocation in a dog food bag.

County EMA receives grant funding

MARSHALL COUNTY — Clyde Avery of the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency updated the Marshall County Council on some grants. One grant that was recently approved was for $20,000 to assist in offsetting the cost of upgrading the radios to the new P25 system. The entire state will be using the system in the near future and the grant helps Marshall County stay up to date with the equipment changes.

Freedom Park moving forward

PLYMOUTH — The Common Council opened a public hearing concerning additional appropriations on Oct. 13. The appropriations dealt with a variety of issues, including allocating funds for the Freedom Park project.
Last week at the recent Park Board meeting, the board decided to allow Freedom Park to move to Packard Woods from the previous spot at the Hoosiers Old Wheel Pavilion. Freedom Park is an all inclusive playground.
The council also passed four resolutions and one new ordinance. Complete details in today's Pilot News.
