Speed limit reduction coming soon

MARSHALL COUNTY — The speed limit is being reduced on Lincoln Highway. The change process has begun as County Attorney James Clevenger presented the Marshall County Commissioners an ordinance to that effect. The speed limit is currently 55 mph and it is being reduced to 45 from Pioneer Drive to the city limits where it drops to 35 mph.
That wasn't the only thing the Marshall County Highway department had to present to the commissioners Monday morning. There was a road cut, another speed limit reduction, a driveway permit and truck bids were awarded. Get all the details in today's Pilot News.

Triton High School improvement plans

BOURBON – “Consistent, rigorous improvement”—that is what makes Triton Jr./Sr. High School a noteworthy institution in Marshall County. As a smaller secondary school, students can feel personally taught with an 18:1 student/teacher ratio.
The main goals for the school are:
• Goal #1 is to improve English/Language Arts meeting standards (passing) of ECA and ISTEP+ to at least 90 percent.
• Goal #2 is to implement “Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports”.
• Goal #3 is to implement/develop Early College: A Pathway to Success.

Four arrested in Argos on drug charges

ARGOS — Tyler Hardee, Uriah Milton, Melissa Newcomb and Michael Knezevich were arrested Friday on drug charges after police from three agencies executed a search warrant in Argos. The details from the police report are in today's Pilot News.

New curriculum standards in place at LaVille

LAPAZ/LAKEVILLE — LaVille High School ninth grade English teacher Shawn Hill presented curriculum changes for the new College and Career Readiness standards passed in April by the State Board of Education for language arts and math to Union North school board members at their Sept. 11 school board meeting.

The general assembly had rejected the Common Core standards in response to push back from Indiana residents. The standards are going into effect this year and will directly impact the school, forcing them to move quickly to implement them.

If IRS calls, it's likely a scam

AREA ­— The Office of the Indiana Attorney General released a scam warning Hoosiers of a potential scam hitting taxpayers nationwide.

One hundred fifty-nine Hoosiers have reported received unsolicited calls from scammers claiming to be the IRS to Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller’s office.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s department, the department has received no calls from residents reporting scam incidents at this time.

It is estimated that the nation-wide scam has cost Americans $5 million total.

Boil order issued for Argos' water customers

September 12, 2014

ARGOS — An alert was issued early Friday morning, advising residents in Argos to boil water before drinking it.

According to the notice, an equipment malfunction in the Argos Water Department caused water pressure to be lost early this morning.

"When this happens we must issue a Boil Order for all town residents. A boil order means that water for drinking and cooking must be boiled before consuming," the Town's press release advised.

There is no confirmed time when the boil order will be lifted.
