PLYMOUTH — Wendell E. Nelson, age 96, of Orange, Calif., formerly of Plymouth, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, Calif. 
Wendell was born July 30, 1917, in Plymouth, to Walter J. and Stella M. (Fletcher) Nelson. Wendell married the former Treva F. Read on May 23, 1943. She preceded Wendell in death July 10, 2010. Together they raised their two sons. Wendell retired from the City of Plymouth Park Department and also worked for the South Bend Current Company.
Wendell is survived by his sons, Phil (Patti) Nelson of Orange, Calif. and Tim (Susan) Nelson of Fort Collins, Colo. Also surviving are Wendell’s grandchildren, Dru (Stacy) Nelson, Jennifer (Matt) Abshire; his great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Abshire and Ryker Abshire; his brother, Gordon Nelson of Plymouth; his sisters, Joan (Fred) Wolff, Rose Marie Campbell, and Helen “Mick” Nelson, all of Plymouth. Wendell was preceded in death by his loving wife, Treva F. Nelson on July 10, 2010; his brothers, Wayne Nelson in 2004 and James Nelson in 1967; and his sister, Mary Girten in 2013.
