Trojans get defensive in dominant 75-44 win over North Miami

December 5, 2012

BOURBON — The Triton Trojans won in dominate fashion as they defeated the North Miami Warriors 75-44 at the Trojan Trench Tuesday night.
The Trojans jumped on them early with a 16-2 run and never let off of the accelerator. Clay Yeo started the scoring with a breakaway dunk which got the crowd going. He dropped in 36 points along with eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals for a nice all-around game.
Yeo was helped out by a good effort from teammates Tanner Shepherd and Seth Glingle who had 11 and 12 respectively.
It was Gingle’s hustle that Coach Jason Groves thought helped stimulate a stifling defense that forced 35 turnovers.
“It starts on the defensive end,” said Groves. “Seth Glingle in particular really kind of set the tone with his hustle and effort. Getting on the floor and battling. Everyone else feeds off of that.”
Triton’s defense helped hold the Warriors to only 13 points in the first half as the Trojans led 45-13 at the break.
It was more of the same in the third as they were able to push their lead out to 65-24, which let them go deep in their bench for most of the fourth quarter.
It was a good win that showed that this team is still getting better, pushing the pace and forcing mistakes the way they are being coached to do.
“We didn’t want this to be a halfcourt game,” Groves said. “We wanted as many possessions as possible. Our guys are getting better in our 1-3-1. Getting more aggressive and getting better traps out of it. Let them make the mistakes. We don’t necessarily need to get the steal out of the trap. Let them turn the ball over to us.”
The Trojans’ record now stands at 2-2. They will be looking to keep the momentum going as they head to Mishawaka Marion on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
