PLYMOUTH — Thelma Ruth Gates, 97, of Plymouth, formerly of Argos, passed away Dec. 15, 2013 at 10:25 p.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor – Plymouth. She had been in declining health for several months.
She was born Aug. 29, 1916 in Steuben County to Harley and Ruth (Mountain) Cosper. She has lived in the Argos community since March 1, 1948, coming from Plymouth where her and her husband Otto had lived for six years.
On Oct. 19, 1937 in Hamilton she married Otto H. Gates. He preceded her on Sept. 28, 2005.
She was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the Argos United Methodist Church, Argos.
She loved to bake making pies and her famous sugar cookies.
She is survived by her daughter — Judy K. Renback and husband Lee of Pittsboro; son — Jerry W. Gates and wife Beverly of Argos; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren with another on the way very soon; and sister-in-law — Wandalee Cosper of Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother — Wayne Cosper, sisters — Hazel Willibey and Edith Cox.
Friends may visit with the family Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Argos United Methodist Church, 570 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. Dec. 19, 2013 at the Argos United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dewey L. Miller Jr. of the Argos United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial is at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.
