WAKARUSA — There are few classic stories that have withstood the rhythms of time by intertwining the magic of fairy tales with the breathless nuances of blossoming love.
“Beauty and the Beast” is one such acclaimed example of a fantasy that has endured, and the young thespians of NorthWood Middle School will be offering their interpretation of the musical Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28. Both shows will begin at 7 p.m. and will appear on the stage of the NWMS cafeteria. Tickets are priced at $3 each, and will be the admission cost for guests of all ages.
Upon the rise of the first curtain, the audiences will be introduced to Belle, played by seventh grader Sarah Foster. Belle is a gentle, intelligent girl who is perceived as something of an outcast within her small town. An adventure to locate her missing father leads her to the sprawling castle of a cursed prince, now regarded as a hideous creature known as the Beast, portrayed by seventh grade student Michael Leonard. Belle’s first impulse is to be repulsed by the sight of the Beast, but she soon comes to realize the greatness of his spirit, and a profound, compelling lesson about the true meaning of love comes to pass.
Along the journey, Belle finds friendship among the Beast’s eccentric servants, many of whom take on the form of fancy household furnishings, such as the enchanting and wise Clock, Teapot, and Candlestick.  Belle also finds that her refuge at the Beast’s estate keeps her hidden from the unwanted advances of Gaston, an arrogant suitor who longs to possess Belle as his own.
This inspiring story of unconditional love carried along within a soul-soaring romance is a charmer and a delight for children and adults alike. Seating is bound to fill quickly, so it is recommended that folks arrive early to secure the best options for close proximity to the stage.  For additional information, contact NorthWood Middle School at 574-862-2710.
