Students brighten BPL

BOURBON — Once drab and dreary walls that lead down the stairs and to the children’s area and meeting room of the Bourbon Public Library are now full of color and life. Thanks to five Triton High School students who took on an enormous project for the library and devoted their time throughout the school year and even over the summer, kids and adults now enjoy walking downstairs as they pass through a rolling country farm scene.
Ethan Yazel, Hope Dormire, Tayler Fisher, Nick Nordmann, and Grace Eib were responsible for a dramatic change in scenery, putting in 34 hours as a group and nearly 70 additional hours of their own time. This is in addition to sports, Destination Imagination, dance, plays, academics, and other commitments.
“They are amazing and we cannot say thank you enough for the change that they inspired,” library director Heather Barron said. “If you have not already experienced the hallway, we invite you to stop by anytime and see the level of volunteer work that these five dedicated teenagers put into their local library.”
This project was made possible through donated time and talent of the volunteer painters, but would not have happened without the Marshall County Community Foundation. A permanent endowment fund was established for the library in 2010 and part of the first disbursement that the library received went to reviving this area of the library for patrons. Several people pass through these hallways to use the children’s area and the meeting room each day. The library is now a much more warm and welcoming environment for everyone. If you would like to contribute to this fund and help your local library, you can do so at anytime.  Simply contact the organization or donate online at marshallcountycf.org/donations/, where you can type a search for “Bourbon Public Library.”
