Sharon A. Funk
Feb. 5, 1940 - Jan. 20, 2014
ELKHART — Sharon A. Funk, age 73, of Elkhart took her last breath on Earth and entered the arms of Jesus on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 at 11:45 p.m. She was surrounded by her husband of 52 years, her two grandchildren and her daughter. Though this took our family by surprise, it was no surprise to Him. Sharon was born Feb. 5, 1940 to the late Leonard and Dorothy (Price) Ambler. She was a 1959 graduate of LaPaz High School. On May 15, 1961, she married her high school sweetheart, John Funk in Elkhart.
John survives, along with their children, John I. Funk Jr. of Sebring, Fla., and Cindy (Alan) Mansfield of Goshen. Also surviving are two grandchildren; Rachel (Josh) Moreland and Ryan (Chelsea) Russo, and eight great-grandchildren; Brianna, Joshua, Benjamin, Nicholas, Natalie, Evan, Ethan and Hailey. Her brother Robert “Clyde” Ambler of Goshen survives, along with her half brothers Larry Ambler of South Bend, and Arlin Ambler of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her son, Tim Funk in May of 1993, her half brother, David Ambler, and a great-grandson, Timothy Moreland.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of calling prior to the 3:30 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at Chapel Hill, and interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Sharon was a homemaker for many years, and later was employed by Harold Zeigler Ford in Elkhart from 1998-2009 where she assisted with clerical duties in the offices. She enjoyed spending time outdoors in her garden, and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed caring for the wild animals around her home, especially the wild turkey she named “Turk.”  She was also involved with her high school class of ’59, where she organized and invited members of the class monthly to gatherings and dinners. Sharon’s generous and caring spirit and caring nature were shown to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as she would drop whatever she was doing and help them in a moment’s notice.
In her memory, donations may be made to either the Humane Society of Elkhart or the American Cancer Society. To leave an online condolence for the Funk family, please visit our website at www.chapelhillmemorial.com.
