Sen. Arnold updates Starke County Chamber members at May Breakfast

May 7, 2014

KNOX — Members of the Starke County Chamber of Commerce learned more about recently passed State legislation at their quarterly education breakfast in May.

State Senator Jim Arnold presented information on bills that were approved during the 2014 General Assembly. State representatives Doug Gutwein and Tom Dermody also attended the event.

Of the 860 bills filed, 223, or 25 percent, were sent to the Governor. “There were two main issues,” said Arnold. “The Governor wanted to eliminate the business personal property tax, and a summer study group will be looking at its effects.”

A Pre-K pilot program was adopted, and Arnold added, “Starke County already has a pilot program. Indiana is one of 10 final states to approve the program.”

In addition to discussion about legislation, several political successes and concerns raised by Tuesday's primaries were mentioned during sidebar conversations among those present.
