ARGOS — Rexford Paul Castleman, 85, of Argos, died April 29, 2014 at 7 p.m. at his granddaughter’s residence in Clarksville, Tenn. He had been in declining health for several months.
He was born Aug. 21, 1928 in Argos to Earnest and Mary (Feikert) Castleman. He has lived in the Argos community all of his life.
On Aug. 28, 1949 at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, Culver, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Cowen) Castleman. She preceded him on Feb. 19, 2012.
Rex was a farmer and carpenter.
Rex was a graduate of Argos High School class of 1946. He served his country in the United States Army from Dec. 4, 1951 to Nov. 21, 1953 when he received his Honorable Discharge. He was a member of the Argos American Legion Post #68, Argos.
He was a member of the Poplar Grove United Methodist Church and attended the Argos United Methodist Church; Betty and Rex were members of the weekly Bunco & Domino Club.
He is survived by sons – John D. Castleman of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Andrew J Castleman and wife Stephanie of Carmel; grandchildren – Danielle Lynn Morton of Clarksville, Tenn.; Tamara Jo Hall of Fishers; and Cassandra Nicole Hull of Auburn; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother – Larry Castleman of Portland, Ore.; and sisters – Rebecca Warren of Quincy, Ill.; and Barbara Andrews of South Bend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Brent Paul Castleman; daughter — JoEllen Castleman; and sister Rosemary Swihart.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church, 570 N. Michigan St., Argos; and Saturday, May 3 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, West State Road 10, Culver.
Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Henry V. Sprunger and Dewey L. Miller Jr.
Burial will be at Maxinkuckee IOOF Cemetery at Poplar Grove, Culver with the United States Army burial unit and the Argos American Legion Post #68 performing military honors.
