Lady Pilgrims fall 10-5
It was an eventful start to the second round of conference as Plymouth traveled to face the Chargers of Elkhart Memorial. The Lady Pilgrims ultimately fell 10-5.
The game began with Plymouth knocking on the door, but Elkhart made the plays they needed to and thus kept Bailey Hatfield from scoring on a potential RBI double from Hayley Brown. Elkhart retaliated and managed to score five runs in the first inning. Both teams continued to put the bat on the ball, but the defense kept the game in check through innings two and three.
Plymouth scored in the third inning when Katie Berg got on base with a single. Bailey Hatfield moved her to second base with another single, and Hayley Brown got the RBI, knocking Katie Berg in to score the first run of the game for Plymouth.
The fourth inning proved beneficial for the Chargers as they reconnected with the bats to score 4 runs and take a 9-2 lead. Their final run was scored in the sixth inning off a home run by Gabby Warner.
In the seventh inning, Plymouth had one last shot and they did its best to take advantage of it. Lead-off batter Katie Berg was hit by a pitch, followed by a walk earned from Sarah Iwinski. Hayley Brown came up and with two strikes blasted her first high school home run over left center field. Momentum seemed to be shifting to Plymouth, but the Pilgrims simply ran out of outs in the game.
On the day there were three spectacular catches made by Jillian Smith, Bre Martin, and Katie Berg.
The Pilgrims travel to Concord on Friday and then host a tripleheader on Saturday at home. A big event coming up for the Lady Pilgrims is the Strike Out Cancer game on May 19. It will be a PINK out and shirts can be purchased at the High School for $10.
