Bremen, LaVille advance at Argos Sectional
Bremen and LaVille earned a pair of quarterfinal wins over Northern State Conference competitors at the Class A Argos Girls Soccer Sectional Tuesday night at Eugene Snyder Field.
The Lady Lions advanced with a dominant 6-2 victory over John Glenn, while the Lady Lancers reprised an earlier loss to Culver Community with a narrow 2-1 victory over the Lady Cavs at Argos.
In the Bremen-Glenn game, Jasmine Schafer recorded a hat trick with three goals, while Katelyn Aguayo finished with two goals and an assist, and Claire Schmidt also scored for the Lions, who out-shot Glenn by a 12-3 shots on goal margin.
Justina Weiss and Celine Murphy scored in the 21st and 36th minutes to knot the game at 2-all at the half for Glenn.
In the LaVille-Culver game, the two teams were locked in a 0-0 stalemate at the intermission before Heather Roeder found the back of the net less than two minutes into the second half to give the Lancers a 1-0 edge.
Kayla Shaffer tallied the equalizer in the 51st minute for Culver, but Kailey Gardner scored on a Roeder assist in the 59th minute, and the Lancers held on for the win after their 2-1 loss to the Cavs at Newton Park last week.
Mickella Hardy recorded 12 saves in goal for Culver, but it wasn’t enough as LaVille out-shot the Cavs by a lopsided 14-3 shots on goal margin.
Bremen and LaVille now advance to the late semifinal at the Argos tourney Thursday at 7 p.m. following an earlier match-up between the host Lady Dragons and Elkhart Christian.
The last time the Lancers and the Lions met, LaVille edged out Bremen in overtime, 5-4, in mid September.

Plymouth, Warsaw set for CMA Regional championship
Warsaw knocked off defending regional champion and host Culver Military 3-2, while Plymouth advanced to today’s championship round with a 4-1 victory over Manchester at the CMA Boys Tennis Regional Tuesday night.
CMA’s Sam Concannon remains alive in the 1 singles tournament following his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Warsaw’s Sam Rice, while Martin Fecarotta and Brian Tao are still in the state doubles tourney with their victory over the Tigers’ 1 doubles tandem of Will Petro and Nikos Schlitt.
The Pilgrims earned victories on all courts except 2 singles Tuesday, meanwhile. They’ll get a chance at a reprisal with the Northern Lakes Conference-champion Tigers after Warsaw handed them a narrow 3-2 defeat — one of just three Plymouth losses this season — in head-to-head play back on Sept. 5.
Plymouth is playing for just its second-ever team regional title after a win in 1992, while Warsaw is looking for its first such title since securing a string of three straight from 2005 to 2007.
CMA closes its team season shy of a fourth straight regional title, which would have been the program’s sixth in eight years.
