Pilgrims clinch 17th straight
After finishing off Triton with a pair of wins at 2 and 3 singles, Plymouth’s boys tennis team won its 17th straight sectional title with a 4-1 victory over host Bremen at DeSantis Courts Friday night.
The Pilgrims earned victories at 1 and 3 singles, where John Hunter defeated Tommy Foster 6-0, 7-6(2) and Nate Knapp battled Krent Hueni to a 7-6(6), 7-6(6) loss, respectively, as well as on both doubles courts, as Matt Flynn and Max Holloway defeated Bremen’s Tyler LaFlash and Austin Ingle in straight 6-2 sets, and Ryan Johnson and Braydon Davidson handed Chandler Snyder and Ryker Hand a 6-0, 6-1 defeat.
Earlier in the evening, John Gerard trumped Triton’s Jared Fisher 6-3, 6-4 at 2 singles, and Knapp put away Alex Eib 6-3, 6-3 as the Pilgrims finished off Triton 5-0 after earning a trio of wins over the Trojans in a lightning-postponed semifinal Thursday night.
Bremen advanced to the finals with a 3-2 win over Glenn as Foster defeated Calvin Kretchmer 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(6) and Hueni beat Alec Runyan 6-2, 6-2 Friday night following Bryce DeVine’s 6-3, 6-4 win over Hunter Jaworski at 2 singles in the lone Lions-Glenn semifinal to wrap Thursday.
Plymouth moves to 15-3 and will play Manchester at the Culver Military Academy Regional Tuesday.
Glenn’s Evan Rhodes and Andrew McDonald stay alive in the 1 doubles state tournament, meanwhile, with their 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Bremen’s Tyler LaFlash and Austin Ingle Friday night.

Slough, Bennitt power Lions
Kai Slough hooked up with Jacob Bennitt for 185 yards and four touchdowns in five completions as Bremen beat Knox 49-6 in a Northern State Conference game in Knox Friday night.
Slough hit Bennitt for TD passes of 68 and 5 yards in the first quarter, another from 8 yards out in the third, and the last time from 47 yards out at the 7:03 stop of the third quarter in the lopsided win.
The Lions’ rushing attack was balanced evenly between Jon Stoller’s and Grant Klockow’s 37 yards apiece, and Josh Fuchs’ 35.
Zellmer scored a touchdown on a 1-yard carry, and Brett Louderback ran back a fumble for another touchdown in the second frame, and Zach Zimmer returned an interception for a score in the third quarter as Bremen moved to 5-2 and kept pace with Jimtown in the NSC at 4-1.
Knox got its lone score on a 63-yard run from Eric Dan at the 5:07 mark of the first quarter, which cut the Redskins’ deficit to 14-6, but they never got any closer.
Dan finished with 68 rushing yards, and Mike Sustaita caught four passes worth 63 yards as Knox slid to 2-5 and 1-4 in the NSC>

CMA falls to Busco
Class 2A No. 3 Churubusco kept Culver Military out of the end zone, and the Eagles suffered a 20-3 defeat on the road Friday night.
CMA finished with just 95 total offensive yards to 261 by Busco. CMA fumbles led to Busco’s two touchdowns in the second quarters the Eagles fell behind 14-0 at the half.
Ryan Graf’s 31-yard field goal at the 8:41 mark of the third was the lone score for Culver, which slipped to 4-3 against undefeated Churubusco.

Glenn falls to Cougars
John Glenn entered Friday’s home match-up with Class 4A No. 5 New Prairie with high hopes of an NSC shaking win, but instead the Falcons fell 56-0 at the hands of the unbeaten Cougars.
All total, Glenn managed only 130 total offensive yards, while New Prairie put up 323 rushing yards on the way to 419 total net yards for the night.
Zach Combes led Glenn’s rushing game with 49 yards in 11 carries, and he caught a pass for 68 yards as well as Daniel Wallace went 2-8-3 for 65 yards through the air.

Jimtown shuts down Cavs
Culver Community fell 49-0 in a Northern State Conference game at Jimtown called at the 6:35 stop of the third quarter due to lightning.
The Cavs put up just 37 total offensive yards in the shutout led by Everett Krueger’s 13 rushing yards and catch worth 14 yards.
Jimtown chewed up 320 yards on the ground and didn’t throw a single pass in the win.
