Preston memorial scholarship announced

August 27, 2013

ELKHART — An Elkhart man who had a profound affect on many local basketball players will continue to do so even after his death.
Phillip S. Preston, the owner of Wakarusa Pharmacy, died on April 20 of this year, and friends and family members will honor his memory and lifelong dedication to the sport of basketball with a scholarship in his name to be awarded to a player from Elkhart or it’s surrounding counties who is a good student, has a record of good citizenship, character and reputation, and possess an exceptional work ethic.
Preston is known locally for being a guiding force of Plymouth’s Summer Basketball League in the 1980s. He sponsored many teams for area high school and college players around northern Indiana and his Wakarusa Pharmacy team in the Plymouth League featured many of Marshall Counties best players of the time.
For more information about the scholarship program you can contact the Elkhart County Community Foundation, or locally Mike Scheetz at 574-286-0324. Donations earmarked for the scholarship can be made directly to the Elkhart County Community Foundation.
