Plymouth's Puttering Pastor

October 11, 2013

MARSHALL COUNTY - Reverend AnnMarie Kneebone of the First United Church of Christ Pastor makes her way up and down the Plymouth and Culver area on her red 250cc Honda Helix scooter as she is affectionally referred to as the "Puttering Pastor" or the "Revving Rev."

Kneebone has been placed under interesting circumstances as she has been serving two pulpits, First United Church of Christ in Plymouth and Grace United Church of Christ since 2011.

The pastor starting riding the scooter as finding parking was difficult when she served in Chicago. Upon making her way down to the two Indiana communities, The pastor still rides the scooter as long as the roads are not icy.

"Parking is no longer an issue but it's still economical," said Kneebone. "I love being outside and it's a great way to get around."

The red scooter sporting a UCC sticker gets 100 miles to the gallon. The pastor makes her way up and down the community for her services as well as making her way to home visits, to Miller's Assisted Living in Plymouth and Culver, Homebound, VTAC happenings and varied community events.

"I talk a lot about hope , bringing faith to our lives and being relevant to the issues of the day. Not theoretical issues but the ones that happen in our lives," said the pastor. "The meat of what goes on day in and day out."

Reverend Kneebone has a steadfast faith that has led her to her service of others.

"I couldn't stay away from it, at 9 years old growing up in the Catholic religion I was pretending to serve communion to my stuffed animals," giggled the pastor. "When it became clear that the Roman Catholic Church was not going to let me become a priest, I had to figure out what I was going to do."

"I was given a great desire for pastoral ministry to walk with people as they journeyed through life and faith. That's the key for me (to pastoral ministry) making that walk with people and the incredible honor it is when someone asks you to reflect theologically about something in their life. Those are sacred moments."

First UCC of Plymouth has Church school Sundays at 9:30 a.m. with fellowship time at 10 and worship at 10:45. Grace UCC of Culver has morning worship at 9 a.m. and sunday school for children and adults at 10:15 a.m.
