After modest success against talented and deep competition in the Northern Lakes Conference all spring, Plymouth’s girls track team showed it has the most depth and talent in the area by winning the Rochester Sectional Tuesday evening.

With seven event wins, the Lady Pilgrims led from start to finish in the 11-team affair, scoring 143 points. Culver Girls Academy finished second with 121. Bremen tied Manchester for fourth with 61.3.

“That was awesome,” said Plymouth head coach Jeff Kindelan.

PHS got things going early with three field-event wins, two by Cece Robinson. The junior won both the shot put (36-0) and discus (99-0) to contribute 20 team points.

“I was sure she was going to win the shot, but wasn’t sure about the discus,” said Kindelan. “She has a knee injury and cannot twist that much, so (the discus) win wasn’t expected.”

Madison Smith then tied her personal best (9-6) in the pole vault to win that event.

“Madison has been awesome in the pole vault all season,” added Kindelan. “Last year she struggled with it, but her technique has been so good. She has not had a bad meet.”

Other first place finishers for the Lady Pilgrims were Ally Dolan in the 100H (16.5), Sadie Bastardo in the 100m (13.57), Nicole Keller took the 200 (28.05), and the 4 x 100 relay team finished first with a time of 52.88.

“Ally had some injuries and it was a little rough for her early in the season,” continued Kindelan. “But I knew she was going to win. I told her she was going to win. I could just tell with her competitiveness, she was going to do it.

“I didn’t expect Sadie to win because I thought our other girl, Rachael Kaylor, would because she had beaten (Bastardo) most of the season. Sadie has great speed and she came through.

“(Keller) is so tough. I thought she’d take the 200. I took her out of the relay because I wanted her to be fresh. That was the slowest the 4x100 has run. I put a whole new group in there, they had a terrible handoff and still won.”

Culver Girls Academy also had multiple event winners. Marissa Rivera won both the 800 ( 2:22.47) and 1600 (5:21.29), while Erin Anderson won the 400 (59.64) easily, Madison Stevens finished first in the 300H (48.81), and the 4x400 relay team ended the night with a win (4:10.23).

Bremen’s Harley Boocher was impressive in the high jump, leaping 5-0 for second place.
