Hatfield named Indiana Academic All-Star

May 9, 2014

MARSHALL COUNTY — Every public and private high school accredited by the Indiana Department of Education nominates one senior for consideration as an Indiana Academic All-Star. This year 253 nominees were received from around the state.
Out of the nominations a committee chose five Regional winners (representing five regions in the state) and 40 Indiana Academic All-Stars. Taylor Hatfield of Triton was chosen as an Academic All-Star.
The selection of the school’s nominee is based on a mathematical formula that combines the SAT or ACT composite score and the seven-semester grade-point average. Academic achievements and honors, academic courses and academic extracurricular activities are also considered. In addition other extracurricular activities, community service and leadership qualities are considered.
Each nominated student submits an essay recognizing his or her most influential educator. There were several scholarships awarded among the student winners as well as the teachers nominated by the students.
Hatfield is a senior at Triton Jr./Sr. High school.
“It’s just a huge honor for me to be named an Academic All-Star. Knowing that I was just one of the 40 people chosen makes me feel so proud. It really showed me that hard work does pay off, and it’s fueled a fire in me to keep me motivated to continue working hard in the future. With senior year winding down, I couldn’t have asked for a better way for the past four years to come to a close than be blessed with this prestigious award.”
Hatfield keeps active by running track and cross county. She is also very involved at school by being on the student council and participating in the key club, science club, art club and spirit club. Hatfield is also the secretary for Triton’s National Honor Society.
Outside of school Hatfield spends time with family and friends. She especially enjoys traveling. Before starting college a trip to Costa Rica is on Hatfield’s schedule for the summer.
Hatfield will attend college at Indiana University East to play basketball in the fall. In the future she would like to study pre-dentistry and hopes to become an orthodontist.
