PLYMOUTH — Grace Mae Curtis, 82, a loving wife, mother, and friend went to be with the Lord peacefully at 2:05 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth. Grace was born March 25, 1932 in South Bend to the late Ila (Morris) and Eldred Rader.
On Aug. 25, 1950 she married the love of her life, D. Gene Curtis who also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Larry Curtis (Diana) of Plymouth; granddaughter, Bethany Bernard (Ryan) of Plymouth; grandson, Brandon Curtis (Katie) of Centreville, Md.; and a stepgreat-grandson, Noah Mazza-Bell of Centreville. She was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives.
Grace was employed at South Bend Housing Allowance as a secretary for eight years. She also worked part time as a financial secretary at First United Methodist Church, South Bend for 10 years, retiring in 1998. She was a long time member of Community Congregational Church, South Bend, where she served as Treasurer for 28 years. She was also a member of the choir. The past year and a half she attended the Plymouth Church of the Brethren.
Grace loved to travel and camp in the western United States and Canada. Her favorite camping spot was at Mackinaw Mill Campground, Mackinaw City, Mich. She and Gene camped there almost every summer since it opened and they both worked there for several summers. She was also an avid collector of Precious Moments figurines.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend with Pastor Ruth Yoder of Plymouth Church of the Brethren officiating. Committal services and entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Friday, July 18 from 4 until 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
