PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Country Club will become “MargariTATAville” this year on Oct. 2 as Marshall County’s Ounce of Prevention Foundation will hold its annual fundraiser.
Fun is the theme for the evening as residents are invited to come share food and drink while raising money to fight breast cancer. The festivities begin at 6 p.m.
Tickets are available at Oliver Ford in Plymouth. The menu includes island food including Hot Mama salsa and chips, specialty drinks and contests such as Low-Down Limbo, TaTa Twist and coconut races.
Kent Arnsbarger will be playing the steel drums and there will be auctions and raffles for the whole evening.
“We have to make it as fun as possible so that people will want to come back every year,” said Jessica Oliver, of Ounce of Prevention and co-organizer of the event.
“People have really started getting into the spirit of it and are donating some very unique things,” added Jen Houin, of Ounce of Prevention and fellow co-organizer. “Bryon Haenes has designed a pink and white bicycle and we have Breast Cancer Oakley (sunglasses) from Bren Speed. People have really started thinking outside the box.”
“Wendy and Amanda at The Beauty Shop are offering a special,” said Jessica. “They will give any breast cancer survivor a free pink strand of hair for the month of October.”
Culver Marina has donated a free pontoon rental; Elite Travel has donated a trip; Larry and Nancy MacPherron have donated handmade jewelry boxes. Fernbaugh’s will be “diving for diamonds” at the event and King’s Jewelry has donated a diamond breast cancer pendant. Anco, Mirror Image and Margaret Kinney have donated items; Dave and Chris Morrow have given IU basketball tickets; and two young men will walk the sidelines at an upcoming Plymouth football game thanks to a donation from the Rockies program.
Raffle tickets for an iPad are on sale now at Oliver Ford at a cost of $5. The winner does not have to be present at the event. Ounce of Prevention is also still accepting auction items.
