The festival is here!

September 2, 2010

PLYMOUTH — Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Department… You know the drill!
It is that time of year when carnival rides and car shows; parades and pageantry; funnel cakes and fireworks; bands and balloons are the words of the weekend. And I didn’t even mention blueberries!
This year’s festival theme is “School Spirit” honoring the excellent public and private schools throughout the county. You will see representatives from each corporation during the parade.
What not to miss:
Pam Tillis will be at the Michigan Street Stage at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tillis is the headliner this year and has had hits such as “Maybe It Was Memphis,” “Shake The Sugar Tree,” and my daughter’s favorite “Don’t Tell Me What To Do!”
Buddies! Sponsored by Centier Bank, Blueberry Buddies is getting bigger and better as we move along. Saturday, the theme is “Critters from Near and Far.” Sunday is “Life on the Farm” and Monday features “Long Ago in Indiana.” The kids will love this new program, You can find it near the B-League Diamond on the east side of the park.
Gospel — The amphitheatre is the site for gospel and Christian music and ministries Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Cars — The Hoosier Old Wheels car show will be all day Sunday with registration from 6 till 11 a.m.
Boomers — I don’t have to tell you about the Hot Air Balloon Glow and amazing fireworks show Sunday night. You will not find a better pyrotechnics display in all the Midwest. Sunday night at 9:15 p.m.
Stomp — The Blueberry Stomp kicks off at 9:05 a.m. Monday morning. Registration begins at 7 a.m.
Pomp — Monday’s festival parade begins at 9:30 a.m. with more than 100 units winding from Plymouth High School west on Baker, south on Michigan, east on Garro to Lincoln Junior High.
Sounds — On the Jefferson Stage and the Michigan Street Stage all weekend — great music from blues and bluegrass to oldies and country.
So many variables…so little time!
The Marshall County Blueberry Festival is a great place for family fun — have a great weekend, be safe and keep smilin’!
