WEST LAFAYETTE — Charles L. Bower Jr., age 88, of West Lafayette, formerly of Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at the Indiana Veterans’ Home, in West Lafayette, where he had lived for the past several years.
Charles was born Jan. 27, 1925, in South Bend, to Charles and Ollie (Miller) Bower. Charles married the former Esther Jean Brown, in 1946, in Miami, Fla. She preceded him in passing. Charles served the Plymouth Community as a Police Officer and served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was very proud of his service to the community and his service to our nation. He also worked with the Plymouth Fire Department driving the fire truck on fire calls. Charles worked several years at McCord Corporation, in Plymouth. He was a Past Commander of the VFW and was a member of the American Legion.
Charles is survived by his three sons, Wesley Charles Bower, Lesley LeRoy (companion Joni) Bower, and Jeffrey James (Dorri) Bower, all of Saint Petersburg, Fla.; his daughter, Brenda Sue (Todd) Bates of Cleveland, Ga.; his sisters, Shirley (Ivan) Magnuson and Norma Young both of Plymouth; five grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Timothy Walter Bower; his sisters, Lucille Long Miller, Mary Jane Brumfiel, and Irene Baker; and his brother, James Bower.
