Argos breaks into win column vs Bremen

August 20, 2012

ARGOS — The Lady Dragons soccer team picked up their first win of the young season with a 4-1 win over the visiting Bremen Lions Saturday.
Shelby Sanders scored first on a pass from Jami Patterson, and Allie Flower fed Patterson for a second tally just a minute later. The Dragons seemed in control, outshooting the visitors 5-1 in the first half, but the lone Lion shot on goal was a score by Jasmine Schafer that pulled Bremen within one with 13 minutes to go. Less than two minutes later Sanders collected a corner kick from Katie Williams and hit a low volley that gave Argos a 3-1 halftime lead.
“We avoided some of the big mistakes we made in our first two games, and our focus was on defending top to bottom,” Argos Coach Jon Alcorn said. “It will be awhile before we feel really comfortable, but this team has the potential to finish the season strongly. We were able to move some kids around and really do some teaching, so hopefully we’ll keep making progress.”
Raelynn LaFrance crossed a ball from the endline and Megan Ditmire knocked it in to account for the only goal of the second half. Both teams finish with 1-1-1 records.
