Appliance store now open in Bremen

December 10, 2013

The first appliance store in Bremen in over 15 years opened its doors in November.
"It's something that my husband's been wanting to do for a while," Christine Swihart, co-owner of JS Appliance Outlet in Bremen, said.
Appliance stores went out of style when the big retail stores began offering lower-end equipment and customers appreciated the convenience of getting everything in one place. The nearest appliance store, which was in Nappanee, went out of business over a year ago.
Companies, however, still offer unique products to dealer-specific stores.
"You won't find the models at Sears," she explained. The models are exclusive to dealers.
"In their eyes, it's a better product," Steve Swihart, Christine's husband and co-owner of the store, said.
JS Appliance Outlet Store sells a variety of large appliances from Maytag, KitchenAid, Whirlpool and Amana such as fridges dryers, stoves and refrigerators.
For Whirlpool equipment, Certified Authorized Whirlpool Technicians are available for maintenance.
"The other advantage we have is that the personnel is trained," Steve explained.
Steve and Christine Swihart and their children Stephen Swihart and Christen White, have lived in Bremen in 1986. They own JS Heating and Air, sell windows and are the owners of a mobile home park in Plymouth, so they understand the needs of customers coming into their store.
Although still a very new store, the Swihart's have been making plans for nearly 30 years and there are even more to come to the small building.
In the near future, they'll begin selling Serta mattresses and small appliances, too.
JS Appliance Outlet is located at 1413 W. Plymouth St., Bremen.
They are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
For more information, call the store at (574) 546-5500.
