BREMEN — Money for school is the reason behind the Third Annual Old Fashioned Days coming up in Bremen.
Rentown is the sponsor of the event that will raise funds for Rolling Meadows School. The festival starts at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, and continues Saturday and Sunday.
Many will remember lots of the exhibits and activities from Koontz Hardware’s show that went on every fall for many years.
“Koontz approached us about taking it over because it had really outgrown their area there in Bremen,” said Dennis Hochstetler of Rentown. “They did their steam show there for years and we moved it out here where there is more room.”
The show will take place three miles east of Bremen at 2640 Birch Road and will feature steam power of all kinds from the Miller Family with their hit and miss engines, Rumleys and antique tractors.
Threshing machines a sawmill, woodcarving and crafts will all be at the show.
“Studebaker is bringing some cars down to display this year as well,” said Dennis. “We are going to have train rides for the kids all day and a little more fun – adult trike races. It will be in the field so it won’t be easy going.”
And of course - food.
Homemade ice cream, fried pies and a bake sale are just part of it.
“We’ll have pressed cider made with a steam engine,” said Dennis. “We’ll have ham and bean soup with corn bread made over an open fire.”
In addition to steam and even earlier form of power will be showcased.
“For the first time this year we’ll have a team of oxen and a team of mules plowing,” said Dennis.
The event will take place about a half a mile from the Rentown store on Birch Road in Bremen.
