BREMEN -- After one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record, temperatures are finally rising and alas, the grass is greening and trees are blooming. With Spring finally in the picture, it may seem a bit premature to be focusing on summer plans, but the Parks and Recreation Department can't seem to help it. While Bremen Parks will continue to play host to nearly a dozen sports leagues this summer, along with events like the Firemen's Festival and the Kids Triathlon, Park Superintendent Brian Main says the park has a few tricks of its own up its sleeve this year. "Since taking over last Summer, I've wanted to create opportunities for families to enjoy our parks in new ways," Main said. When the pool opens on Saturday June 7, area residents will have an opportunity to do just that.
"2014 marks the 50th year of operation for our pool; on opening day we'll be celebrating those 50 years and diving into the 2014 pool season."
(Renovations in 2004 forced the pool to close for one season, so the pool has been around for 51 years, but active for 50 years.)
The Parks and Recreation Department is planning a one-day pool celebration and promising fun for area residents. The event, which will be held from 11 a.m. -- 5 p.m. June 7 at the Community Pool, will feature a day's worth of free swimming, a cannonball competition, free food, music, games and giveaways.
