Visitor’s center funding examined in council workshop

Culver's town council last week spent about an hour in discussion with representatives of Culver's new, "in the works" visitor's center as part of a work session in response to the center's request that the town help fund the project for this, its inaugural year.

Culver's Obispo Street may be the recipient of much-needed rehab if an Indiana Department of Transportation grant is received by the town, though work wouldn't begin until 2018.

At the March 25 meeting of Culver's town council, application for a grant of some $810,000 to $865,000 to completely replace the street, sidewalks, and curbs along the street on the south side of town, was among several topics of discussion.

CBGC auction 2014 set to continue success of club, past events

The Culver Boys and Girls Club (CBGC) has announced its annual silent auction event to be held on June 13 (starting at 6 p.m.) at Culver Academies Lay Center.

The CBGC board members are excited about this year’s event, says board chairwoman Ginny Munroe.

Local musician’s song reaches nationwide audience for World Down Syndrome Awareness Day

A song by local musician Chad Van Herk has gained widespread attention as part of the worldwide observation of World Down Syndrome Awareness Day, which took place Friday, March 21.

The song, “A Smile for Everyone," was written by First Farmers Bank of Culver's bank manager Van Herk for his nephew Keel Allen, who has Down's Syndrome.

Culver Kiwanis Club receives grant for new cyclo-cross event this fall

The Culver Kiwanis Club hopes to add another community event to the area's roster this fall, and they've received a Marshall County Tourism grant to help the process along.

The club is planning a cyclo-cross event for Sunday, Oct. 19 (that's the Sunday of this year's second annual Culver Fall Fest), as the first manifestation of an annual fund-raiser for its local scholarships program.

Variety of options on table at park work session

After a hiatus of several weeks, the newly-enlarged (thanks to the addition of Union Township appointee Bob Osborn) Culver park board met for the first time last Wednesday, discussing a wide range of issues during a lively daytime work session and a lengthy evening board meeting.

During the work session, the two most prevalent matters were the future of various piers at the park, as well as repairs to, and future use of the beach lodge building. Discussion of both topics included plenty of audience suggestions and ideas.

Marshall County – Working on a tip March 21, officers from the Indiana State Police, Culver Police Department, and Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, proceeded to 624 Forest Place apartment 3A in Culver in an attempt to locate a stolen car and a female subject that was wanted on a warrant.
