March 5, 2014

EDITOR'S NOTE: For background on the controversies fueling many of the discussions of the meeting covered here, see: http://www.thepilotnews.com/content/background-park-controversy-look-bac...

If, as was stated during the town council's planning discussion in weeks past, the "town hall" style meeting held Feb. 18 at the depot on Culver's Lake Shore Drive was intended to be focused primarily on the community's suggestions for the future direction of the town park, the meeting was instead dominated by an very different line of discussion.

Background to park controversy: a look back month-by-month

March 5, 2014

Editor’s note: In the wake of ongoing controversy and particularly last week’s public forum on Culver’s town park, some have asked

Obviously no such endeavor will be complete or detail every aspect of debated matters, but the editor hopes instead to here present a general overview to help put context on matters of longstanding discussion.

Alcohol in the park among topics at Feb. 11 council meeting

February 25, 2014

While timing appeared to be the critical factor in preventing alcohol from being served at a dinner in the town park depot during last week's ice fishing tournament, discussion at the Feb. 11 regular meeting of Culver's town council also indicates the matter is still far from being devoid of controversy and debate.

Audience member Jean Rakich raised the issue during the meeting, saying, "I think it's all about the almighty dollar; if we open it (serving alcohol in the park) for one, we have to open it for all."

CVS drive-through, renovations expected by end of this year

February 24, 2014

Culver's CVS Pharmacy has maintained basically the same appearance since its 1974 construction as Hook's Drugs, but the wheels are in motion for a dramatic change, both inside and outside, as well as the addition of drive-through pharmacy service, by the end of 2014.

John Fulkerson of the Wheatfield, Indiana-based Hamstra Group, which will handle contracting on the project for the CVS corporation, sat down with members of Culver's town council Wednesday, Jan. 12, to answer council members' questions as to specifics of the work.

Culver Miller’s lauded for 30-plus years of service to Meals on Wheels

February 15, 2014

For over 30 years, Culver's Meals on Wheels program has been delivering hot meals to seniors and shut-ins across the area, and for over 30 years, Miller's Merry Manor nursing home facility has prepared those meals in its kitchen. That's a fact the Culver Council of Churches -- which has long been a local intermediary for the endeavor -- wanted to acknowledge by way of a "thank you" plaque recognizing Miller's, which was given recently at the facility.
