Bremen historic standpipe discussed

A small group of history buffs met at the Italian Coffee Bar in Bremen to learn more about the local water standpipe. Bremen’s Charlie Sauter, U.S. History teacher at Jimtown High School, is a former water department employee, so he was naturally chosen by former township assessor Pat Rowe to be featured as the local authority on the subject.

Dirrim is Miss Blueberry 2011

Seventeen young women lit up the stage of the Argos High school auditorium Saturday night at the Marshall County Miss Blueberry Festival 2011 pageant — but ultimately, one outstanding contestant took home the crown. Shelby Dirrim, Bremen, was named the new festival queen, succeeding Miss Blueberry 2010, Shelly Ortiz.
“I’m still a little bit shocked — like, did they call the right number?” said Dirrim after the pageant. Clutching her bouquet of flowers and flushed with excitement, Dirrim added, “I’m really excited to represent the festival this way.”

Bremen’s Firemen’s Festival offers family fun

The Bremen Firemen’s Festival has been a traditional event in the area since its inception in 1950 that is anticipated by people of all ages.
Firefighters and other volunteers from the community work to ensure that the thousands of annual attendees have much to choose from: Food, music, games, rides, a parade, a waterball competition, fireworks, and more.

Anderson an inspiration to many

Kyle Anderson isn’t one to talk about himself or anyone else for that matter. But he will give you a great big smile, no matter who you are and no matter what — which is infectious.
It’s no wonder that Anderson, who recently graduated from Bremen High School and will be attending Manchester College this fall to become a teacher, received the WNDU-TV “Class of 2011” recognition as being an inspirational student. Principal Bruce Jennings who had nothing but good things to say about Anderson, nominated him.

Bremen School Board looks at The Crossing

BREMEN — Students who have problems with school, especially those who have dropped out, will have another option after the Bremen School Board approved a motion regarding The Crossing — an accredited alternative school.
The school corporation will be working with the Wa-Nee School District to have the option available for students who otherwise did not succeed at Bremen or at the Bremen Academy. Wa-Nee is asking that Bremen participate in cooperation with them in order to fill 25 slots for the program.

Bremen police to enforce town animal ordinance

BREMEN — During the summer months complaints regarding dogs and cats increase. To reduce these complaints and the potential for injury to animals and people the Bremen Police Department would like to remind animal owners of the town ordinances regarding domestic animals.
All animals must be properly restrained at all times, including when walking in the park, and owners are responsible for cleaning up all their pet’s wastes. Animals also should not be allowed to bark, howl, whine or otherwise disturb or annoy any other resident.

BREMEN — Last April, Bremen Family Martial Arts had a special visitor come to the studio. In addition to learning new martial arts skills, students also had the opportunity to become a part of a great cause.

Triathlon training begins June 6

BREMEN — Kids who compete in the triathlon this year will have an easier time finding their way down the routes. “We have added more barriers and guidelines so they don’t get confused on the routes,” says Sandy Moser noting that organizers have also “changed the transition area to make it safer” and have added a “spectator cross walkway.”
Those who wish to participate can get started soon by taking part in the summer training, which to is said to be the best part of doing this event.
