First Year? No Fear

September 8, 2014

BREMEN -- Everyone can identify a tradition once it has been set.
But when does a tradition actually start? And how active is it?
At Bremen High School, the tradition has been to hire the best teachers available.
That's the tradition, as much a Long Green Line as any athletic endeavor.
So it is that Shannon Verhaeghe, the only first-year teacher at Bremen High School, is starting her experience.
She started as a country girl, in Columbus, In., a city she finds not dissimilar from Bremen.

In Sight, They're Always Right

September 2, 2014

It is such a basic fact of life that most of us take our eyes for granted.
But doctors Lindsey Huff and Kevin Hickman of Bremen do not take it for granted.
They are the ones who make sure your sight is always right.
Like so many people in our hometown, they are both natives of Bremen.
Dr. Hickman was already practicing when Lindsey was in school here.
"She came in here and knew about optometry," he said.
"He gave me my first pair of glasses," Dr. Huff said. "And I job-shadowed him when I was in high school. And I interned with him."
