Triton ice cream social Aug. 9

BOURBON — Triton School Corporation will host a free ice cream social at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 in front of Triton Elementary School. This ice cream social will be followed by the Summerfest fireworks on the school grounds.

Rock the park

BOURBON/ TIPPECANOE — The Destination Imagination group is hosting a Rock the Park fundraiser at Potawatomi Wildlife Park in Tippecanoe on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is free to the public. The group is accepting free will donations to go towards applying new gravel to the drive. The estimated expense is $4,200. There will be a variety of musical acts including Quentin Flagg.

Friday, Aug. 8
6:30 p.m. — Carousel rides open, vendors will be selling their wares
7:30 p.m. — Miss Triton pageant, doors open at 6:30 p.m., entry fee is paper products for the Pantry or $1.
Saturday, Aug. 9
7-7:45 a.m. — Summerfest 5K and fun run registration at Triton Elementary. All proceeds go to the Jacob Berger Memorial Scholarship fund. For more information, please call Justina Faulkner at 574-253-2186.

BHSAA 119th alumni reunion

BOURBON — The 119th Bourbon Alumni Reunion of the BHSAA was held in the Matchett Senior Center on May 17. Classes graduating in the years ending in 4 and 9 were the honored classes. There were 138 alumni and guests present.
Greeters for the evening were Noah (‘51) and Irene Lemler, Herb (‘57) and Peggy Schaetzle, and the hostess Janet Hall Trowbridge (‘58), and the prayer was by Barbara Briggs Shively (‘59).
The meal was prepared by the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and served by the Young Adults Class from the Pentecostal Church.

Triton hours, text book rates and registration

The offices of Triton Elementary and Triton Jr./Sr. High School are now open. Elementary office hours are 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Jr./Sr. High School office hours are 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. New students entering Triton Jr./Sr. High School should call 574-342-6505 to make an appointment to register. Textbooks are to be paid in full or a payment schedule must be established on these dates for both buildings.

Project Lead The Way is growing strong

MARSHALL COUTNY — Turning students into active participants in their learning experience has caused schools to increase Project Lead the Way (PLTW) course offerings.
Triton Community School Corporation offered PLTW courses last year in both the junior and senior high. This fall PLTW curriculum will also be available at the elementary level.
“We had a teacher participate in the training program over the summer for the K-5 Launch program,” said Superintendent Donna Burroughs. “The kids really like the PLTW courses because they get hands on learning experiences.”

Special library board meeting May 20

BOURBON — Bourbon Public Library will hold a special library board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 at the library to review and approve the Indiana State Library Technology Grant regarding the Remember Bourbon project. The meeting is open to the public.

Bourbon Public Library announces summer reading plans

BOURBON — FIZZ, BOOM, READ at Bourbon Public Library this summer. Babies, kids, teens, and adults can all register for the 2014 summer reading program at Bourbon Public Library starting May 27. All ages can read to be entered into drawings for prizes including T-shirts, Potawatomi Zoo passes, Science Central passes, Mud Love bracelets, restaurant certificates, and more. For pre-K through sixth-graders, the library will have mad scientist experiments — register and sign up for spaces at the library — FIZZ! — June 3 and 5, BOOM! — June 10 and 12, BANG! — July 1 and 3, POP! — July 8 and 10. 

Triton music program honored

BOURBON — A singular honor was bestowed on the Triton music program last Thursday evening at its annual spring concert. Greg Noble, representing the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), presented Director of Bands and Choirs Peter Foster with the “Best Communities for Music Education” award granted by the association.
