Areas teams compete at NSCs

May 9, 2013

WALKERTON — Bremen’s boys track and field team had already beaten both Jimtown and New Prairie in dual meets earlier this season, but the Lions knew it would likely be a different story at Wednesday’s Northern State Conference championships. With start sprinter Sam Lacher sidelined with a hamstring injury and a total of eight teams in the field vying for the top spots in each event, Bremen fell short of both.

Plymouth track competes at NLCs

May 8, 2013

WARSAW — If ever anyone had an excuse to just sort of coast through their senior track season, it would be Plymouth’s Dan Samuelson.
As a DI University of Michigan recruit in his primary sport of football, Samuelson is already one of the Rockies’ most accomplished athletes. And the Wolverines’ workouts give him plenty to do besides.

Big inning dooms Trojans at Plymouth

May 8, 2013

PLYMOUTH — It was back in the win column for Plymouth’s Pilgrims in a five-inning, 10-0 win over Triton Tuesday.
The game was originally cancelled by weather in early April, but the sky fell on Triton in the game’s fourth inning as they suffered from the illness that’s been plaguing the Pilgrims of late — the big inning.
A tight, well-pitched contest turned into a nine-run Plymouth lead when the Pilgrims plated seven in the fourth inning thanks to four Trojan errors.

Plymouth splits with Marian, Glenn in 3-way at Swan Lake

May 7, 2013

PLYMOUTH — Two days after shaving 18 strokes off their front side score for a new nine hole season-low at Orchard Ridge, Plymouth’s boys golf team pared off another four strokes Monday.
But Mishawaka Marian’s Matt Rozyck’s posted a field-best even-par 36, and the Pilgrims’ season-best 157 fell a stroke short of the Knights as Plymouth split with Marian and John Glenn in a three-way meet at the Silver Course at Indiana National.
While Rozyck carded a 36 in the second flight for Marian, teammate Michael Makris came in just a stroke behind him at 37.

Pilgrims overcome by Tigers at Warsaw

May 7, 2013

WARSAW — A good weekend turned into a blue Monday for Plymouth’s Pilgrims as they took the road to Warsaw to fall to the Tigers (9-7) by a 7-1 final in an NLC battle.
Splitting games in their annual weekend tourney with Ft. Wayne Wayne and Penn had Plymouth feeling good about heading into a long week of games, but Warsaw pitcher Jason Ferguson made that good feeling go away with a masterful performance on the mound for the Tigers.
