Plymouth tops Glenn in four

September 29, 2010

PLYMOUTH — A little enthusiasm can sometimes go a long way.
Plymouth showed that Tuesday as the Lady Pilgrims stayed up after a third-game loss to visiting John Glenn, rebounding quickly to put their guests down early in the fourth game and hold them off for a 25-12, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16 victory at The Rock.

Plymouth the favorite at Bremen Tennis Sectional

September 28, 2010

BREMEN — As the 44th Annual IHSAA Boys State Tennis Tournament gets under way around the state Wednesday, Plymouth is the heavy favorite at the Bremen Sectional.
With an unbroken string of 16 straight sectional championships it would be easy to take a 17th consecutive title as a foregone conclusion.
But that’s not what the Pilgrims have in mind as they open play Thursday against John Glenn.

Knox overpowers LaVille in NSC match

September 28, 2010

LAKEVILLE — LaVille didn't come out intimidated, but once Knox got rolling, it was tough to stop.
The Class 3A, Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) No. 8-ranked Lady Redskins overpowered the host Lady Lancers 25-14, 25-9, 25-7 in a Northern State Conference match at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Monday.

Trojans stumble as Bremen wins NSC Tournament

September 27, 2010

BREMEN — Heading into Saturday's final round at the Northern State Conference tennis tournament, Triton still had a shot at a piece of the crown.

Lady Pilgrims' season ends at East Noble Regional

September 27, 2010

KENDALLVILLE — Led by an impressive 5-under-par 67 from freshman Katie Sharp, East Noble clinched the championship while DeKalb was second, Fairfield finished third and Plymouth placed 12th at a challenging East Noble Girls Golf Regional at Cobblestone Saturday.
Erin Kinney sank a birdie on the last hole to lead the Lady Pilgrims with a score of 86, while fellow senior Megan Schank shot a 94, both Mandy McPherron and Dani Letsinger turned in scores of 101, and Emily Berger recorded a 103 at the regional contest.

Lady Lions win CMA Invitational

September 27, 2010

CULVER — Headed into the elite Culver Academies Invitational, Bremen head cross country coach Mickey Gardner didn't know how his team would fare.
The Lady Lions had been battling injuries in recent weeks, but they responded to the challenging field and beautiful weather Saturday with four of the top 20 places to win the girls closed race with a convincing 105, 20 points ahead of their closest competitors.
Hope Jordan paced the Lions in third place, while Amy Fanning, Sara Slabaugh and Megan Burcham finished in order in 12th, 14th and 18th en route to the championship.

Lions run all over LaVille on the road

September 25, 2010

LAKEVILLE — A voice blared from the Bremen sideline in the second quarter.
“Braxston, put your head down and make them pay!”
On his next carry, Bremen running back Braxston Miller lowered his head and punished two LaVille defenders.
“Braxston,” the same voice shouted, “that’s the way to run the football!”
And pretty much the way the entire Lions squad, which scored during its first eight possessions, bowled over LaVille in a 54-13 Northern State Conference road win at Lancer Field Friday.

Error-prone Triton falls, 13-6

September 25, 2010

BOURBON — When trying to beat a team you’ve lost to 12 straight times by an average of 33 points, mistakes must be minimal.
Unfortunately for Triton, errors which have plagued the Trojans this season occurred with disappointing frequency Friday night.
Four turnovers and untimely penalties nixed Triton’s bid to beat New Prairie for the first time since 1997, as the Trojans were handed a 13-6 homecoming defeat.
“We played hard, but it was the same old story, unfortunately,” Triton coach Rodney Younis said. “Turnovers. We have got to eliminate the turnovers.”

Culver's streak ends at Knox

September 25, 2010

Culver’s program-record winning streak came to an end Friday as Knox put up a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to break a 14-all halftime tie and grab a 28-14 Northern State Conference home win over the Class A, sixth-ranked Cavaliers.
The Cavs had trouble limiting the big play as two of Knox’s scores came on a 46-yard pass and a 46-yard run.

Falcons scoreless streak ends, winning streak lives on at CMA

September 25, 2010

CULVER — The Eagles ended John Glenn’s shutout streak, but it was too little, too late as the Falcons claimed a 49-12 victory at Culver Academies Friday.
Glenn scored two touchdowns in all but the fourth quarter, and the Falcons defensive unit held CMA to just 45 total net offensive yards in the first half, shutting out the home team for three quarters — its sixth such performance in six games this year — before a Juwan Brescacin touchdown catch and a Pierre Byrne 5-yard run in the fourth quarter concluded a streak of 15 scoreless quarters by Glenn opponents.
