Rockies moving on vs. Washington

October 21, 2010

PLYMOUTH — It’s over. That’s about all that Plymouth’s Rockies want to remember about last week, with the opening round of the playoffs looming.
“You can sum it up and just say it was frustrating,” said Plymouth coach John Barron of last week’s season ending loss to NorthWood by a 7-3 score. “It was frustrating to our kids, frustrating to our staff and I think frustrating to our fans. You shouldn’t lose a game where you only give up seven points.  But that’s a long time ago now. We’ve stopped talking about it, stopped thinking about it and gone back to work.”

PLYMOUTH — Historically, Mishawaka Marian and South Bend St. Joseph’s have dominated the Plymouth Volleyball Sectional.
And although the field is generally more even this year, the two teams are favored once more, with the Lady Pilgrims following closely behind at the Class 3A Sectional 17 this week at The Rock.

"It's always good, but I think with this third one we've kind of established a standard now that's expected," said Culver Girls Academy head soccer coach Nathaniel King. "Now we can focus on a bigger challenge at regional. It's a big confidence boost going into regional."

Cavs finish season on high note

October 16, 2010

CULVER — Culver Community football head coach Andy Thomas said his team treated Friday’s regular-season finale with LaVille as a playoff game.
Given the results, the defending sectional champion Cavs look poised to make a strong run at a repeat.
Senior running back Mike Salary danced his way to 213 yards in 16 carries, scored twice, and even tossed a touchdown pass for good measure in the Cavs’ 35-6 Senior Night win over Northern State Conference rival LaVille.

October 16, 2010

WALKERTON— What’s gotten into the Lions?
First No. 2 Jimtown and now No. 8 John Glenn.

Rockies come up short

October 16, 2010

PLYMOUTH — For Plymouth’s Rockies it was déjà vu all over again in the fourth quarter.
Twice, the Rockies (6-3) had opportunities to score what could have been a game-winning touchdown in the game’s final five minutes. Twice an outstanding NorthWood defensive effort on fourth down turned Plymouth away empty handed and enabled the Panthers (4-5) to take home a 7-3 NLC win.

October 13, 2010

CULVER – Culver Academies, Plymouth, and Triton cross country coaches each think their runners are capable of quicker times.
Thanks to their respective squads’ performances at the Culver Academies Cross Country Sectional Tuesday, those skippers can put those hypotheses to the test.
The Eagles pulled off their third consecutive boys-girls title sweep – the boys by a scant two points – while Plymouth and Triton also transferred both boys and girls clubs to Saturday’s regional meet, also at Culver.
