Rockies return home for sectional semis

October 30, 2014

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth’s Rockies have to feel that there is no place like home and living to play another week at the Rockpile has brought the reward of 7-2 South Bend St. Joseph.
The Indians come to Plymouth having lost back to back games in week five and six against Marian (8-2) and Penn (10-0). Last week they survived an opening round playoff scare at home against Hobart. They were able to do all that while replacing 10 starters from a year ago.

Area runners close at New Prairie Semistate

October 27, 2014

NEW CARLISLE — Hey, at least they were there.
After all, several times this season, another semistate appearance for the Plymouth girls cross country team looked like no sure thing.
With that in mind, finishing 20th during Saturday’s tournament at New Prairie High School was nothing to be upset about, though the Pilgrims surely wanted to do better.
Also finishing up were the boys and girls teams from Culver Academies. They placed 15th and 13th, respectively.

Glenn doesn’t want fun to end as tournament play opens Friday

October 23, 2014

MISHAWAKA — As sectional play opens around the state this Friday, John Glenn’s motivation is simple: The Falcons are having so much fun, they don’t want it to end.
“Our seniors especially, they’re scared to lose,” said Glenn coach Dave Sharpe. “They don’t want this to end because they’re having a blast. These kids love each other, and you can just tell that the camaraderie is there and we just want this thing to keep rolling.”

Pilgrims open Clay Sectional with win

October 22, 2014

SOUTH BEND — Plymouth got off to a solid start at the South Bend Clay Volleyball Sectional Tuesday, jumping on top with a 25-14 win in game one, then rallying for a 25-23 win in the second game before putting away South Bend Adams 25-17 in the third and final game.
It was good to just get out and get started at the tournament, said Plymouth head coach Doug West.

Dragons four-peat at Peru Regional

October 20, 2014

PERU — Four years, four straight championships. But lest you think the feeling ever gets old, think again.
Damon Binkley notched a hat trick, and Argos’ boys soccer team cruised to its fourth consecutive regional title with a 4-1 victory over upstart Eastern at the Peru Regional Saturday night.
“It doesn’t get much better; you can’t ask for much more,” said Binkley, a starter with the team each of the past four regional championship seasons.

Culver Academies teams, Lady Pilgrims advance at CC regional

October 20, 2014

CULVER — Culver Academies earned dual second-place regional finishes behind Warsaw, and the Eagles earned semistate berths in both the boys and girls races at the Culver Academies Cross Country Regional Saturday. Plymouth’s girls team advanced in the last spot out to next week’s New Prairie race with a fifth-place finish at Saturday’s meet.
The Eagles were led by Landrum Neer in 11th place, while Justin Matei finished 13th, Zach Dunlap was 16th, Alejandro Tumoine was 17th, and Shane Pursch finished 39th.
