PLYMOUTH — Darek A. Long, 31, formerly of Plymouth, passed away suddenly at 2:47 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He has been a resident of Strawberry Point, Iowa for the past two years.
Born in South Bend on Feb. 8, 1983, Darek was the son of James A. Long and Martha E. (Schoberg) Conley. 
Darek received his education at Plymouth High School with the class of 2001. He made wiring testers with the Commercial Vehicle Group in Edgewood, Iowa serving the Caterpillar Corp.

DEWEY, Ariz. — Doris Jane Berger, age 74, of Dewey, Ariz. left our world for her heavenly home on Monday, July 21, 2014.
Doris was born in Walkerton on March 20, 1940 to Delbert and Gale Kinney. She graduated from Tyner High School and Vogue Beauty College.
Doris was married to Larry A. Berger on March 19, 1961; married for 53 wonderful years.

Fresh look at Earthworks

PLYMOUTH — Earthworks market reopened Tuesday morning after a being closed for two weeks.
The market was closed to allow staff time to do some rearranging, reorganizing and get ready for new product. The market is more self-serve friendly now making it easier for customers to access bulk and/ or refrigerated items. The bulk selection will be expanded to include a larger selection of items.

US Highway 31 opening expected next month

MARSHALL COUNTY — Frustrated motorists traveling north and south along US Highway 31 will receive a break in their driving excursions when the new road between South Bend and Plymouth opens in late August.
According to Matt Deitchley, media relations director for the Laporte INDOT district, there is no definitive date for the opening of the new bypass.
“Things are moving along. We had a hard winter and the frozen ground changed our schedule,” he explained, stating that while construction was not delayed it was extended.
There are some minor restrictions to be expected.

Superintendent contract approved at Triton Schools

BOURBON – Triton School Superintendent Donna Burroughs was rewarded with positive comments during a public hearing on her new contract prior to the regular School Board meeting Monday night.
Observations from Board members and administrators present affirmed her work and leadership of the school corporation. The public hearing was preceded by an executive session in which the Board conducted a self-evaluation.

County emergency plan changes tabled

MARSHALL COUNTY — An updated emergency plan for Marshall County was submitted to the Commissioners Monday morning. The commissioners did not approve the changes to the plan.
“I am here today to talk to you about adopting a new county comprehensive emergency management plan. This is based on recommendations from the EMA advisory council as a result of an after action report and improvement plan from the blizzard and snow events that occurred this past winter,” said Clyde Avery, Marshall County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director.

Post 27 ousted in regional

PLYMOUTH – Plymouth Post 27’s appearance in the regional was short-lived.
On Thursday, Bristol bounced the Diamond Spyders from the tournament with a convincing 11-6 victory at Bill Nixon Field.
Post 27 had fits trying to figure out Bristol starting pitcher Jake Tucker.
Tucker allowed just three runs on five hits over eight innings as the Diamond Spyders never had more than one hit when he was on the mound.
“I thought we came out kind of flat and they came out and did a nice job hitting the ball,” Post 27 manager Will Hostrawser said.

PLYMOUTH — Margaret Henrietta Petron, 97, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center - Plymouth Campus. Margaret Henrietta (Ostrowski) Petron was born on a farm near Browerville, Minn. on May 20, 1917, the eighth of nine children to Joseph and Hedwiga (Nanik) Ostrowski. She had five sisters; Gertrude Pozorski, Mary Ostrowski, Sophie Kubitza, Pearl Brown, and Eleanor Beckers and three brothers, Andrew Ostrowski, Louis Ostrowski and George Ostrowski.
