LAPAZ — Leonard W. “Lee” Sargent went to be with his parents on the morning of Monday, Oct. 20, 2014. He is the son of Allan F. and Lillian (Monpetite) Sargent and was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y.
He had a very interesting life with his family and friends. Telling stories of all kinds and helping any person in need, if he could. Lee was caught bragging about his family and grandchildren whenever he got the chance.

BREMEN — Ernestine Irene Edel, age 90, of Bremen, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa. She was born March 30, 1924 in Nappanee to Otis S. and Clara M. (Stevens) Oster. May 23, 1953 Ernestine married Richard D. Edel in Mishawaka. He preceded her in death July 30, 1987.
Ernestine retired from Uniroyal Plastics in 1979. She was a member of The First United Church of Christ in Bremen, and the Bremen VFW Post 8972.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

PLYMOUTH — Robert E. Krick, 91, of Plymouth formerly of Bourbon, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. at home.
Robert was born Jan. 6, 1923 to John H. Krick and Dora E. (Bowman) Krick at Bourbon. He has been a resident of Bourbon, Kokomo and Plymouth. He was a faithful member of Gospel Light Mission Church of Kokomo. Bob was a United States Army Veteran serving from January 1946 through January 1949.

BREMEN — Orrin Wayne Perkins, 81, of Mishawaka, formerly of Bremen passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 at Signature Health Care in Bremen. He was born on Jan. 26, 1933 in South Bend to Charles and Hazel Perkins. Orrin retired from Nipsco in 1991, after 40 years of service. He was also a long time member of the Moose Lodge of Mishawaka.

SOUTH BEND — Dimitria H. Bechaka, 96, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 in her residence surrounded by her family.
Dimitria was born Nov. 26, 1917 in Shiatsista, Greece to the late Evangelos and Kaliopei Varveri. On Feb. 12, 1939 in Greece, Dimitria married Harry Bechaka, who preceded her in death in September 1996. They spent many wonderful years together raising their family and making great friendships through their business The Good and Plenty Restaurant in Plymouth.

Senior Expo changes locations

October 21, 2014

PLYMOUTH — The Senior Expo will be in full swing October 23 at Plymouth High School. From 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., community members can snack on food and goodies while having their inquiries answered.
For the last few years, the expo has been held at the LifePlex. But Jackie Wright, Director of the Marshall County Council on Aging, knew the location needed to be bigger this year.
“The expo has grown and due to the growth and the possibility for future expansion, we needed a larger venue,” said Wright.

Superintendent's contract is up

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth School Board will hold a public hearing concerning the contract of the Superintendent prior to the regular meeting on November 4.
Patrons will be allowed to give testimony during the hearing scheduled for 6:30 P.M. in the Board Room located at 611 Berkley St.
The Board released a summary of the proposed contract that would be in effective from July 1, 2015 until June 30, 2019 for the extension of the contract with Daniel Tyree. According to the release, the compensation will be effective retroactively starting July 1, 2014.

Kosciusko County Sheriff Department seeking information

October 21, 2014

Early Monday morning a break-in occurred at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School. Forced entry was made into the building where the intruder attempted to steal money, prescription medications, and musical instruments from secured areas. Damage was done to a few areas of the school, with the primary damage occurring in the office and nearby areas.

PLYMOUTH — JoAnne P. “Pennie” Collins, 78, formerly of the Culver area, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
Born to Viola Sawyer in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich. on Jan. 15, 1936, Pennie graduated from Sault Sainte Marie High School with the class of 1953. She attended nursing school through Ivy Tech and graduated in 1976.
On May 8, 1954 Pennie married Verner R. Collins Sr. in Sault Sainte Marie Church, Mich. He would precede her in death on Aug. 16, 2003.
