Blueberry Festival board members toured Argos facilities

ARGOS/PLYMOUTH — Although negotiations for space the 2015 Marshall County Blueberry Festival won’t even begin until after this year’s festival has come and gone, steps towards long-planning continue. The 2014 festival will mark 48 years of holding the Labor Day weekend festival in Plymouth.

Representatives from the Blueberry Festival Board have reportedly looked at several alternative sites throughout the county as a “what-if” back up in the event that the festival would move from Centennial Park in Plymouth.

Plymouth man charged with child molestation

PLYMOUTH — Jonas Salazar Olvera, 67, of Plymouth and Texas, was arrested Friday on charges of child molestation.

Olvera also had a previous charge pending from a 2009 incident with similar circumstances.

He is being held on a $115,010 bond.

Ice cream parlor preparing to scoop it out

PLYMOUTH — For the love of ice cream and ice cream lovers there’s going to be a new location to get hand dipped cones in Plymouth. Mooney’s Ice Cream Parlor’s grand opening will be Aug. 8.

“There’s three principals that I plan to follow to maintain a successful business here,” said Jon Webster, co-owner of Mooney’s. “You have to give a good product, a good portion at a good price and maintain a clean inviting family friendly atmosphere. I am going to do all three and more."

Walk-off homer beats Post 27 in opening round of state finals

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Post 27 looked to be cruising to an opening-round victory over Kokomo Post 6 in the American Legion state finals, but suffered a gut-wrenching 9-7 loss Monday night thanks to a walk-off two-run homer.
Post 27 entered the final frame holding on to a 7-5 lead as pitcher Clayton Adamson looked to record the save.

WARSAW — Lloyd Don Miller, 80, of Warsaw passed away Monday, July 28, 2014 at 1:30 a.m. in Warsaw Meadows Care Center, Warsaw. He was born on Nov. 25, 1933 to Harvey G. and Nellie P. (Dudgeon) Miller in Plymouth. He has lived in Arizona and Indiana.
He was united in marriage to Barbara S. Wallen on Sept. 19, 1953 in Argos. He was a truck driver retiring in 1991.

SOUTH BEND — Dorothy M. Chippas, 98, of South Bend, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014, in her home. She was born on Jan. 20, 1916, in Glendale, Pa., to the late Robert and Anna (Loibl) Shearer.

Beerenbrook Road drain repairs bid awarded at $412,067

PLYMOUTH — The storm sewer drain project at Beerenbrook and Jefferson Street will begin soon. Haskins Underground was awarded the bid at Monday evening's city of Plymouth Board of Public Works meeting. The project is expected to be completed this fall.
Also discussed in the meeting was Fire Chief Rod Miller reported the total monthly incidents and a request for EMT services. Read all the details in today's Pilot News.

Family day at the park fun for all

PLYMOUTH — The Coca-Cola Family Day brought hundreds of visitors to the Young Amphitheater on Saturday. The annual event featured face painting, live music, a sprinkler, K-9 officer John Weir and Jax and hot dogs and coke products among other activities.The free event was a lot of fun for children and families. Livestock outlawed in city limits

PLYMOUTH — The city of Plymouth Common Council met Monday evening in regular session. The council passed ordinance 2014-2079 in reference to keeping livestock within city limits being unlawful. In addition the council also approved 2015 salaries for the mayor, clerk-treasurer and council members. Full details in today's Pilot News.
