Teen accused of setting fire to her home

WARSAW — A 13-year-old is believed to have attempted to set fire to her house while her parents were inside last evening in the Barbee Lake area of Kosciusko County.

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana’s growing national reputation as a state that works for business has received another boost, according to a press release issued Tuesday by a state agency.

Indiana ranks 8th overall in the Tax Foundation’s 2015 State Business Tax Climate Index, up from 10th in 2014, and remains the top state in the Midwest for business tax competitiveness.

REMINDER: BMV expands hours for voters needing photo IDs

INDIANAPOLIS – Don Snemis, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), announced that BMV license branches will extend hours of operation on Monday, November 3 and on Tuesday, November 4 to issue ID cards and driver’s licenses that may be used for identification at a polling place.

Branches will be open on Monday, Nov. 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

City storm drain work nearing completion

PLYMOUTH – Roads have been torn-up, traffic detoured and pipe installed. That means the end of the Bereenbrook storm water project is nearing completion.
Donnie Davidson, utility superintendent, reported to the Plymouth Board of Works Monday evening, that the Beerenbrook, Jefferson Street, Packard Woods storm drain project has proceeded as planned. Davidson stated that whole pipe has been installed.

It's a trashy issue

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth could become a “trashy” town if sidewalk obstruction becomes a major problem.
October 23 Mayor Mark Senter released a statement on Facebook requesting residents to be more considerate about leaving their trash receptacles on the sidewalk for pickup.

Information session on "Saving our Schools"

BOURBON – Proposed legislation may do away with small school districts, such as Argos, Culver Community, Triton and LaVille - any school district with less than 2,000 students.

That is the reason that Triton Superintendent Donna Burroughs is stepping up and hosting an information session on the legislation and what it will mean for Marshall County.

Burroughs announced a public meeting entitled “The Challenges of Education in America: The War on Public Schools” to be held at the Triton Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.

Help sought in burglary

CULVER — Marshall County Police are asking the public's help about a burglary that occurred during the day at a residence in the 1300 block of SR 17.

According to the police report, an unknown suspect or suspects entered the home and took a RCA 55 inch flat screen television. The crime occurred on Thursday, Oct. 24 while the homeowner was away during the day.

Anyone who may have information on this crime is asked to call Marshall County Sheriff's department at 574--936-3187

Area runners close at New Prairie Semistate

NEW CARLISLE — Hey, at least they were there.
After all, several times this season, another semistate appearance for the Plymouth girls cross country team looked like no sure thing.
With that in mind, finishing 20th during Saturday’s tournament at New Prairie High School was nothing to be upset about, though the Pilgrims surely wanted to do better.
Also finishing up were the boys and girls teams from Culver Academies. They placed 15th and 13th, respectively.

PLYMOUTH — Shirley Lou Davis, 67, a resident of Plymouth, passed away following an illness at 5:05 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 in the Cardinal Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend.
Shirley was born in Hanover, W.Va. on July 8, 1947, the daughter of General L. and Minerva J.  Lester. They have preceded her in death.
