PLYMOUTH — JoAnne P. “Pennie” Collins, 78, formerly of the Culver area, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
Born to Viola Sawyer in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich. on Jan. 15, 1936, Pennie graduated from Sault Sainte Marie High School with the class of 1953. She attended nursing school through Ivy Tech and graduated in 1976.
On May 8, 1954 Pennie married Verner R. Collins Sr. in Sault Sainte Marie Church, Mich. He would precede her in death on Aug. 16, 2003.

PLYMOUTH — Sonny (Auburn) Balser, 70, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 at 6:01 p.m. with his loving family by his side.
Born on May 1, 1944 in Charleston, W.Va., Sonny was the son of Lestel G. and Galdys P. (Hopper) Balser.
On Nov. 28, 1998, Sonny married Gail Sweisberger in Plymouth.
Sonny was the owner/operator of Granada Van Conversions in Bristol and he managed three trailer parks in the Plymouth area for over 12 years. He also worked for Pioneer Auto in Osceola until his retirement in 2010.

ARGOS — James Craft, 86 of Plymouth died Thursday, Oct. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at his daughter’s residence in Argos after a long illness.
He was born Oct. 20, 1927 in Breathitt County, Kent. to Clifton Craft and Meadia Hensley. He lived in the Argos community since 1951, after he moved to the area from his native Kentucky.
He is survived by his wife, Marcelle L. (Hartman) Craft. the couple were married Oct. 16, 1973 in Clintwood, Va. James worked at Eley’s Saw Mill in Argos as an Off Bearer.

PERU — Four years, four straight championships. But lest you think the feeling ever gets old, think again.
Damon Binkley notched a hat trick, and Argos’ boys soccer team cruised to its fourth consecutive regional title with a 4-1 victory over upstart Eastern at the Peru Regional Saturday night.
“It doesn’t get much better; you can’t ask for much more,” said Binkley, a starter with the team each of the past four regional championship seasons.

Culver Academies teams, Lady Pilgrims advance at CC regional

CULVER — Culver Academies earned dual second-place regional finishes behind Warsaw, and the Eagles earned semistate berths in both the boys and girls races at the Culver Academies Cross Country Regional Saturday. Plymouth’s girls team advanced in the last spot out to next week’s New Prairie race with a fifth-place finish at Saturday’s meet.
The Eagles were led by Landrum Neer in 11th place, while Justin Matei finished 13th, Zach Dunlap was 16th, Alejandro Tumoine was 17th, and Shane Pursch finished 39th.
