Triton schools warns of incident of 'stranger danger'

BOURBON — Schools superintendent Donna Burroughs posted a warning on Facebook after she learned children were approached by a stranger this morning.

Burroughs did not have any details at this time, but confirmed she had been contacted by county police. The children were on their way to school and the stranger, identified only as a male, wanted the children to get into his car.

"All of our students are safe as of the writing of this message," Burroughs said. "I've also contacted the local police to make them aware of this incident."

John Glenn seeks refinancing of school bonds

WALKERTON — John Glenn School Corporation Board of Trustees endorsed an effort to refinance the school district’s bonds at their meeting Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The board voted to approve a resolution to refinance the 2004-2005 bonds.
“Interest rates are lower and we can generate some cash that will allow us to continue to do a number of capital projects at John Glenn High School,” said Schools Superintendent Richard Reese.

Local agency seeking employees

PLYMOUTH — Marshall County residents have a new opportunity to find a job on Sept. 10.

Cardinal Services Inc of Indiana will be hosting an open interview day for direct support professionals. Interviews will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 510 W. Adams Street, Suite 220.

Cardinal Services is a non-for-profit that helps adults with intellectual and development disabilities with daily living needs in the Marshall County area.

Founded in 1954 in Warsaw, the company has between eight to 10 open positions in Marshall County; company-wide there are between 40 to 50.

Speed limit to be lowered on Lincoln Highway

MARSHALL COUNTY — Speed limits for at least one county road is going down, based on information presented at Tuesday’s Marshall County Commissioner’s meeting.

In one of three road count surveys done by the Marshall County Highway Department, results indicated that the speed on Lincoln Highway needed to be reduced to 45 miles per hour from Pioneer to the city limits where it becomes 35 mph. The area has several businesses, private residents and a day care.

Making downtown a destination vetted at Revitalization meeting

PLYMOUTH — “Let’s make downtown more exciting,” said new member to the Downtown Revitalization Committee George Schricker at their Sept. 3 meeting.

He suggested making downtown an exciting destination for people.

“We could do restaurants in the area to bring in residents,” he suggested.

Member Dave Morrow stated that the committee will soon be working to move phase II of the project, which includes starting work on Laporte Street.
