Cement mixer repair shop or junk yard?

PLYMOUTH — Whether a business is operating as a parts supplier or a junk yard has come before the Plymouth Plan Commission, prompting officials to seek definition from the state.

At their recent October 7 meeting, the Plan Commission brought up concerns for CDS Mixers & Parts on Western Avenue. But the issue has surfaced before.

Argos edges Lady Lancers in shootout at LaVille Sectional

LAKEVILLE — Last year’s girls sectional final saw Argos stun LaVille for three goals in the first six minutes and lead 5-1 before a pair of late Lancer goals narrowed the margin. This year’s semifinal match-up looked to turn the tables as the Lancers struck in the fourth minute for an early lead. The similarity ended there, however, with the Dragons eventually winning in a penalty kick shoot-out.

Plymouth, NorthWood bow out at Warsaw Sectional
Culver and Plymouth played a back and forth match with both having opportunities on goal, but Culver Academy’s Jordan Blackburne was the only player on the field to hit the net, lifting the Eagles to a 1-0 win.  
Plymouth countered with a goal that was called back by the center ref — allegedly there was a hand ball. Katie Berg had one save and one allowed.

PLYMOUTH — Rebeca H. Rodriguez, 77, of Plymouth, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at 7:18 p.m. Rebeca was born April 15, 1937, in Santa Rosa, Texas, to Marcos and Esther O. Hernandez. Rebeca married Jose L. Rodriguez on Aug. 4, 1960. Jose and Rebeca moved to Plymouth in 1967 and in 1968 she began working for Lear, until she retired in 2003, leaving behind a job she enjoyed and many dear friends.

Lilly Endowment awards $500,000 grant to MCCF

PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Community Foundation (MCCF) has received a $500,000 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. in the sixth phase of the Endowment’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) initiative for Indiana community foundations.

Begun nearly 25 years ago, the GIFT initiative was designed by Lilly Endowment to help local Indiana communities develop the philanthropic capacity to address their own needs and challenges. Now 94 community foundation and county affiliate funds throughout Indiana make grants to support local charitable organizations in all of Indiana’s 92 counties.

Small raise provided in Plymouth teacher contracts

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth School Board handled a number of agenda items during their regular meeting on October 7.
The Board members present voted unanimously to ratify the Master Contract with the teaching staff. The contract includes raises for teachers ranging from 1.2 percent to 2.7 percent. Additional terms include a new dental insurance plan that now includes orthodontics. According to Superintendent Daniel Tyree, they also added a few extra-curricular positions primarily for supervision.

Rotary features antique, collectibles show in Plymouth Saturday

PLYMOUTH — The last big blowout of the fall will be heading to downtown Plymouth for a day of sales and support for the Rotary Club.
As a way to involve the downtown merchants interested in promotion, the Rotary Club is sponsoring an Antique and Collectibles Show October 11, blocking off the downtown street of Michigan between LaPorte and Washington. The show will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., on the last day of the farmer’s market.
